"Hollywood Refinishing restored my kitchen cabinets and painted most of the interior of my house. The workers were on time and cleaned up at the end of everyday. They were professional and did beautiful work on both the cabinets and the painting."

"In the initial meeting with Russ Burdeno of RAD, it was reassuring and quite a pleasure to be dealing with the obviously knowledgeable and experienced owner of the company. (A company I had contacted earlier, a much larger, nationwide outfit, had sent a relatively green salesman who offered a slick brochure, but couldn't answer my questions about what he was proposing.) Russ showed me photos of similar work his company had done previously, and he answered every question I could come up with. Russ proposed removing and replacing the failing footing and stem walls, and supporting the new footings on pipe pilings driven deep into the ground to make the footings independent of the surface soil on my hillside property that had slumped years earlier in a very wet winter. It was impressive to see how RAD temporarily supported the two-story house on shoring pipes as the original footing was removed. The original slab had been made without reinforcing steel, and an attempt to simply repair the broken and settled section 30 years ago had failed, so Russ proposed, and I wanted, to completely replace it with a new reinforced slab anchored to the new footings. RAD suggested using an independent engineering firm to make its own inspection of the house and to evaluate the proposed work. Additional engineering inspections were then made as the work was underway and when completed. After the contract was signed and work had started, RAD offered to extend the exterior walkway that was being replaced so as to provide a nice entry stoop for a side door. This was done at no additional cost. The RAD crew was a very professional and quite likeable bunch of guys. They worked efficiently and as neatly as I could have expected (demolition is messy work). They even moved a very heavy piano out of the room having the slab replaced. When the work was finished, they moved it back! I am very satisfied with the work and the result that RAD provided."

"very well. they were able to come and give me an estimate and provide a temporary cover for the roof leak area as there was rain in the forecast. They said they would be able to return a day later and that was good because it was going to rain again. Their cost seemed fair. We had a good father son team. The office personnel were knowledgeable and responsive. I've already recommended them to friend. they repaired a 10'by10' area with paper and my unbroken and their new tiles 8 were broken and checked the rest of the roof."

"I contacted Kurt after a search on Angie's List for carpenters. My house was built in 1960 with a and quot;gingerbreadand quot; trim style on the fascia and frontal aspect. The corbels and supported fascia next to our master bedroom windows, on the front of the house, had sustained water damage and rot due to paint failure on the upper surfaces, and we needed to replace the bad wood prior to repainting the house. <br /> Additional component: because the gingerbread-style fascia also supported the roof undersheeting, the front row of shingles would need to be peeled off and replaced after the new wood was in place. <br /> In addition to carpentry services, Kirk's company also does roofing, so he was a perfect fit. I contacted 3 other contractors as well, and although all seemed competent, only Kolb was able to handle both the carpentry and the roof repair. <br /> The wood replacement was a bit interesting, because it required large-dimension lumber, all of which had to be either scroll-cut or radiused to match the original design; this meant that it had to be precut using a large-throat bandsaw prior to installation. <br /> Kurt came out himself to take measurements, copy design and give the estimate, which was in line with the other contractors. We talked about his ability to replicate the original designs, and also to perform the roofing repairs, and I was satisfied that he could do the job, so we went ahead with the work. <br /> Kirk was in contact throughout the process. The job took a day longer than estimated, due to delays in procuring the lumber in the correct size, but once that was done, he and his crew arrived to remove the old wood, install the new pieces (which meant, with the corbels, sawing off the old pieces adjacent to the house so that the new pieces could be lag-screwed into good wood without tearing out the surrounding stucco). <br /> The on-site work of removal, replacement and priming the new wood took only one day, and looked exactly like the original design. They matched the original roofing material perfectly, and it was all done in time for my painter to begin prepping the house for paint 2 days later. <br /> I was completely happy with my choice of contractors for this job. Kirk did everything he promised in a timely manner with quality workmanship - and even came in a bit under the estimate! I have no qualms recommending him for any exterior carpentry or roofing jobs you may have. <br />"

"I have to start this review by telling you that my husband, who is an engineer, is obsessive about using only people who do quality work. He will tolerate nothing less. In addition he asks many many questions. When I told this to Diane at Coughlin she immediately said she would send Gerald, the company owner, to give us an estimate. Gerald was fantastic and answered all our questions. It is obvious that he takes great pride in his company and he trains and demands quality work from his installers. Everything was done on time and in a very professional matter. There was not a speck of dirt, smuggled windows or other debris when they left. The only thing left were our great new windows. I had spent a great deal of time researching other companies, reading reviews on the and checking them out. None other could compare. The price for these 2 doors was approximately $1000 less than I anticipated. Total turn around from calling Coughlin to installation was 3 weeks. Just 2 weeks after signing the contract. We couldn’t have had a better experience."

"We had wanted to replace the ugly boxed lighting in our kitchen. Communication to set up appointment was excellent (fast responses) and we were able to schedule quickly (within a couple of days). Tom called to notify us he was on his way and arrived on time and was very polite and professional. The work area was draped and taped to minimize dust/debris, the floor was covered and the work done quickly and neatly. Wow, what a pleasure! We have a few other lighting projects and will definitely use their services again."

FAQs for shed, barn or playhouse repair projects in Borrego Springs, CA

You’ll know it’s time for a new shed roof if shingles curl or buckle, soft spots sag, or water stains appear inside. Moss or other plant growth on the surface is another red flag that moisture has breached the roofing layers. Replacing the roof quickly stops leaks from spreading, protects stored items, and saves you from costlier structural repairs down the road.

Choosing between a flat and a sloped shed roof comes down to climate, budget, and upkeep. A flat roof is cheaper up front, but still needs a slight pitch for drainage. A sloped roof sheds rain and snow more easily, lasts longer, and often needs less maintenance. Weigh your local weather patterns, the look you want, and how much time you’re willing to spend on upkeep before deciding.

A shed roof’s life span hinges on the material you choose and how well you maintain it. Most standard products last 15 to 30 years, while premium picks like slate or clay tile can protect the structure for 50 to 100 years. Regular inspections, fast fixes, and routine cleaning all help you reach the upper end of those ranges and keep your tools and gear dry year-round.
