"<p>After examination of the property they promptly forwarded a written estimate and provided verbal description of what they intended to do to solve the settling problem. The work was scheduled promptly and the workmen arrived on time. The work required 3 days. </p> The workmen were courteous and efficient. It was necessary to remove some shrubs from near the foundation in order to place the piers. They do not replace the shrubs after completion of the work. I did that myself. They kept me informed as to what they were doing and at the time that they jacked up the addition they monitored inside the house to assess any cracks that developed inside as a result of the movement of the foundation. Upon completion of the work they cleaned up the area. Upon their completion I hired Handywoman to complete the project by repairing the cracks that remained - both outside and inside with plaster. <br />"

"Last year my wife and I had enough with our foundation problems.  Our back basement wall and side wall was cracked form the top of the foundation to the basement floor.  The cracks were so big that water constantly came through during and after heavy rains.  We called several different foundation repair companies, but none of them could provide us with what we knew we needed.  We needed a sixty foot section of our basement wall replaced, but none of the companies that we contacted could provide that service.  It wasn't until we contacted Frank Matyiko, owner of Expert House Movers, that we were able to get the assurance that a section of our foundation could be replaced.  Our friends asked us how they were able to hold our two story home up while taking out such a huge section of our foundation wall.  I tell them like owner Frank Matyiko said to me "we combine over 50 years of structural moving experience with 30 years of foundation repair experience and that's how we get it done."  He provided me with a structural engineer and obtained  the repair permits needed for the job, which no other company would provide.  Frank Matyiko oversaw the entire project from day 1 to completion.  Thanks for saving our home, EHM is awesome. <br />"

"They went above and beyond for fixing things that were broken. Some of the tiles in our lanai were cracked and broken from their equipment and they came in and fixed those. They restored the entire yard and flowers that had died from the concrete. They were easy to work with and the contact people, Karen Hecksher, did so much for us and made sure the ongoing process went smoothly. She was easy to get in touch with and was highly responsive when I reached out. Kelly Hamlett also helped us with documentation for the mortgage company and questions we had about the lean release and such. She was also prompt with her responsiveness. I would highly recommend them."

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Bowling Green, FL

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
