"The engineer Leo was very responsive when I left a message over the Christmas holiday weekend for an engineering inspection needed before a residential home contract to purchase expired in this hot 2020 market. He inspected the home the following Monday and provided his report. With his valuable report and information, the contract has proceeded and all parties are very happy!"

"When I contacted Avery they sent a designer to give estimate and design. She was able to design my small kitchen to be more functional. She helped me pick my granite, tile, and cabinet color. Avery handled pulling the permit and we started a few days earlier than planned. I really liked that Avery has their own crews and I had two managers to oversee the project. The tear out was dusty and they kept my home covered and protected.I had a very hard working, detailed and honest crew. I love my new kitchen and will be hiring Avery next year to do my bathroom."

"Steve came to our project site promptly and as scheduled. His office was responsive during the entire process. Communication was crucial, since we were out of state. He kept us informed at each step. A couple of days after the inspection (which was thorough) Steve produced a summary inspection report as well as a fully detailed report with plenty of photos and code c,itations. He further guided us on next steps towards addressing any issues he found, and advised me on the remediation process which is now underway. I highly recommend Inspecto-Graff for a new home or construction inspection."

"Irma did some damage to my old patio enclosure, so I decided to have it replaced. I am so thankful I chose Fleet Concrete, because they were lifesavers with this project from ****. Initially we thought it would be a fairly simple remove and replace kind of job. However, upon close inspection, Bob and his crew found countless issues with the old roof structure and supporting knee wall put in by the previous homeowner, which completely changed the scope of this project. It got to the point where things were so bad, that I didn't know if I'd even be able to have a new roof put on without doing some major construction work to the main house. But Bob and his team worked tirelessly to figure out a way to make this work for me. Once the solution was found, I had my gorgeous new patio roof and screening installed in 2 days flat. And the final result was even better than what we had originally planned on, prior to finding all the previous damage. I now have a gorgeous vaulted ceiling screen enclosure, and I couldn't be happier."

"The design of the addition went very well with very few snags. Eric made a couple of visits to our home and discussed the many options available to build our custom addition. He went over aesthetics, cost options, materials, etc. When the construction began, he answered questions from the contractor about the design. He also inspected the construction, as part of an additional service, and provided detailed reports to the building contractor about items that were missing or not done correctly per plan. Overall, we are pleased with the design and feel that it enhances our home in both  appearance and functionality. G2 gets our recommendation without hesitation. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Tampa, FL

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
