"Professionals thru and thru. I was most impressed on their review and recommendation of the best way to refinish my dining room table and my grandfather's dresser. At first I thought their prices seemed a little bit higher than I expected but after listening to their explanation why and seeing the outstanding attention to detail and high quality, I would have paid more. Finding someone to do this kind of work right is hard enough, but being lucky enough to find a detailed oriented professional was special!"

"I hired another service provider to breakdown my sofa and rebuild. My brand new sofa was a mess, wobbly arms, seams didn't match up, makeshift legs. To be blunt, I got taken by an unscrupulous service provider. O'harro came to my home and went right to work. He took his time and documented via photos the shoddy work done by Mike Koff Furniture Repair, who is a service provider on Angie's List and did a terrible job rebuilding my sofa. My sofa is as strong as a brick wall now. No more dips in the middle, silly legs, or sinking into the couch when I sit on it. Alexander is a true professional and I would hire him again without hesitation."

"I started to refinish a beautiful old vanity. Half way in I realized I was I in way over my head. Someone had tried refinishing it before me and I thought I could not only fix what that person ruined but make it ten ones better. After realizing that I made it worse, I called The Furniture Doctor. They were going to deliver it back to me but I opted to pick it up at their shop. I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!!!! I could not believe what these artists did to my vanity. It's absolutely exquisite. They were incredibly accessible, more than reasonably priced and they actually turned what I thought I would have to, broken hearted, throw away back into a beautiful, frequently commented on vanity. There are no words to describe the precision detailing, the artistry and the beauty is actually"

"He will tell you what you can do or not with the furniture pieces, and what his recommendations are. He has excellent value for the service and only kept our chairs for one week. Would absolutely recommend him and will use him again for any future work."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Bryn Mawr, PA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
