"He was on time, polite, articulate and clean. Told me what he wanted to do, answered all my questions, and worked carefully and efficiently. When he was finished, he moved the table with me to another room. The experience could not have gone any better than it did. "

"<p>Woodchuck Woodworking of Atlanta produces genuinely custom furniture. If you can design it, they can build it; and if you can "almost" design it, they will help you complete the design. And once the design is finished, it is, so to speak, never finished, since they evaluate pieces as they build them to ensure the design genuinely is what you want, genuinely will function as everyone hopes, and does not include features that compromise or otherwise detract from the original plan. Example: the width of one bookcase easily accommodated the two framed-glass doors with its four legs, the other bookcase -- as they began to see -- would not, hence added two extra legs (front and back) in the middle of the bookcase. Perfect solution, and not something I had considered. The corner cabinet for the plaster bust was designed to perfectly accommodate the height of the bust, but Floyd stepped back and considered that several more inches of headroom inside the cabinet would let the top of the bust and thus the bust as a whole "breathe" better. Again: Perfect solution, and not something I had considered.</p> <p>But it's an imperfect world. Not a problem. Whenever we had questions or suggestions during the construction, they always listened and considered them just as carefully as they had the original design. After pieces were completed, if something was not what we expected, they made special trips over to check and correct whatever it was or to offer suggestions of their own. Even after they had moved on to the next piece, if an earlier piece needed a tweak (bookcase door not closely perfectly flush), they would come out and tweak it. That is, Woodchuck Woodworking makes sure the piece is what you wanted and is more than reasonable it their willingness to work with you as things progress. They take pride in their work; it's obviously as important to them that you get the beautiful piece you imagined as it is to you.</p> <p>That said, be careful with your design, since they genuinely will produce the piece you agree on. If they do detailed drawings to work from, examine them carefully, every dimension, every feature, and ask questions if you have any; they will listen and respond and, I might add, never complain. They are detail-oriented, and their finished products reflect it. So make sure you understand the details as well. You will be glad you did, and happy with the furniture. It truly is custom furniture.<br></p> <p>To that end, namely, to ensure everything turns out well, they will send you pictures as the work progresses.</p> <p>We could not be happier with the furniture (and the workbench as well). It's gorgeous, and some of the pieces frankly came out better and more handsome than we had anticipated.</p> <p>Be patient. Woodchuck Woodworking is a small operation offering extremely personalized attention. They try to stay on schedule while being subject to the same unforeseen circumstances as the rest of us. When they turn a piece around immediately, it's great; when a piece takes a bit longer, it's also great. It's worth the wait.</p> <p>We obviously used them for several pieces (see above) as return customers, and would continue to do so. In fact, we have already recommended them to friends and to the contractor who built our custom home.</p>"

"I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to those at Williams Furniture Repair for providing such outstanding customer service.  They were able provide an excellent re-caning job for our French chairs, as well as arm and leg repair of the same.  The ends of the chair arms had suffered scraping damage and the escargot feet had 15 years of wear and tear from a bustling kitchen environment.  They were also able to replace a missing piece of molding on a favorite coffee table. They were able to take an existing molding piece to the shop where the match was then fabricated. They were further able to repair other damage to the same coffee table after it had been dropped by our movers.  Now, one would never know that it had been damaged!  There was also damage to a French armoire during our move.  The hinges of the doors had been bent during its move and it would no longer lock.  They were able to reposition the lock so that it now catches.   They also graciously went around the house leveling furniture pieces so that doors and drawers would now function properly, diagnosing other furniture repair issues,  offering furniture care advise,  and touching up a variety of nicks and scratches.  They were most professional during their stay and went out of their way to make repairs as soon as possible in order to meet our needs, despite their over-loaded holiday schedule!  Thank you so much!  Yes, I would highly recommend.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Buford, GA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
