"Erinn was my initial contact and he gave a very through and fair estimate. We had structural work done to support floor joists and large beams under the garage that needed replacing. Ernesto and his team, Julio, Salvatore and Gilder worked tirelessly to complete the work and were respectful, punctual, informative and good humoured throughout the entire process. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others. A really great company!!"

"Shenon was great! We hired them to install a door to connect a bedroom and bathroom. Their crew worked hard, while being very tidy, personable, and accommodating to our needs and requests. We will definitely be reaching out to them for our next project!"

"I requested an inspection and estimate for upgrading of the foundation/sill bolting to obtain a California Earthquake Authority (CEA) Hazard Reduction Discount on our Earthquake Insurance Policy. Julian Construction provided us with a complete foundation inspection and provided us with their recommendation for foundation sill bolt reinforcement work and the associated cost estimate. We then scheduled the construction for a couple months later. Julian Construction prepared drawings and obtained the required City permits, and performed the work as promised. The retrofit work went very smoothly and it was completed in less that two days. Julian Construction returned after the Labor Day Holiday to receive the City's Final Inspection/Acceptance. Julian's Forman and carpenters were very courteous and professional and they provided us with before and after photos to document the work. I requested Julian Construction to complete the CEA's Dwelling Retrofit Verification Form and we subsequently received approval of a CEA premium discount from our Insurance Company."

"Jeremy at OC Structure Check was fantastic! He completed a very through evaluation of our entire structure. He explained what he was checking for during his inspection. He also provided several recommendations to strengthen the structure in a couple of spots where there were small cracks in the wood. We feel much safer now that we have had our roof structure evaluated and would fully recommend OC Structure Check."

"2 words.... Smooth ride. I can't express enough truly how great of an experience this was. I have good experiences with previous contractors but not like this one with Meir. I didn't feel pressured into making decisions, he was willing to work with me on the price (because I wanted everything high end), and I was constantly updated with the status of the project. I highly recommend working with this company and Meir. Thank you again for your outstanding work. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Responsive front office providing phone and email information. Brian Henderson, Estimator, is knowledgeable about his product and took time to discuss options available to restore the integrity of a roof on a 85 year old, architecturally distinct house in a designated historic neighborhood. He took measurements, surveyed the roof and took photographs. His promised assessment and proposal arrived a few days later. Several proposals are being considered, but La Rocque is a serious contender because the proposal and contract provides a step-by-step sequence of events and the timeline is reasonable. <br />"

"Emad was unwilling to provide a written report of his findings—why? My guess is he doesn’t want to stand by his findings and/or he’s lazy and doesn’t want to. Either way, not someone you want to use as the basis for an eval of your house’s structural integrity when purchasing a home. He charges $400 for a “verbal” report with you—-useless when you are going thru escrow..."

"They said they’re leveling pros and we got to experience it in action! This was quite the experience, we had our home leveled but didn’t think it was going to be this extensive! They first lifted our home on stilts and jacks, was quite the scary concerning experience, but they reassured us with their expertise. We didn’t have to leave our home, there was no major movement or shaking etc. They had workers inside and underneath communicating with laser measures leveling every portion perfectly. Once home was leveled accurately they removed the stilts and permanently bolted down the home. Very happy and would highly recommend!"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Cathedral City, CA

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
