"Robert was fantastic to work with and did a great job...  He's on time, flexible (I had to reschedule), takes pride in his work, explains everything he's planning to do and why, inspected the rest of the brick house and made suggestions that will save me $ in the future, prices seemed good to me (better than another quote I had), cleaned up after he was done.  Will definitely call on him in the future and have no reservations in recommending him.

"Roger, the owner, is very knowledgeable and flexible. He was willing to extra spend time with me as we jointly decided what design would be best for the top of the chimney. As a bonus, he gave me the option (which I took) to use some high quality brick that he had left over from a previous project for a discount. Replacing all of the brick and the flue at the chimney base without having tons of brick above it collapse, destroying the house, is advanced masonry work. I had contacted other highly rated masons from Angie's List also. They all returned my calls and said that they would give me quotes, but didn't even though I contacted them multiple times. They didn't say why they wouldn't give me a quote, but my educated guess is that they hadn't replaced the entire base of an existing chimney. Curt, Chris and Pete were the masons that worked on our chimney. Their work was very well done and they were friendly. Our roof is moderately steep, so they set up scaffolding from the ground with a bridge then going to the chimney. Because masons are not allowed by St Paul city code to replace the chimney liner, I pulled a permit and replaced it myself. After I did this, Curt from Rogers Masonry, kindly came back and installed brick around the opening in the basement where the liner exits the chimney going to the boiler. I presumed that I would have to do this, so this was a pleasant surprise. Chris cleaned up the original clean out door, that was cast in St Paul, at the bottom of the chimney so that it could be reinstalled... a classy touch. Because most masons were unwilling to bid on this project, it is difficult to tell how competitive Rogers Masonry bid was. The bid that I received from Rogers was not inflated. However, the 'B' rating for cost represents the small number of masons willing to bid on the work... which isn't Rogers Masonry fault. For the quality and expertise of work done by Rogers Masonry, it would be mistake not obtain a bid from them on your masonry project. I'm very pleased with the company, the employees and the work performed. The work that Rogers performed looks much nicer than the quality of brick laying that was originally done over 100 years ago. I strongly recommend them without reservation. The included images are all of the base of chimney in the basement. Note that the mortar is all tooled (the originals were not) and the courses are neatly layed... even though it's in a basement where it doesn't matter. FYI: The mortar around the chimney liner in one of the images is a darker because those bricks were just installed... filling the opening that was left so that I could install the liner."

"I highly recommend Lenâ s company Trilite. The process of replacing my brick with stone veneer went so smoothly. Since Trilite was the manufacturer and the installer in my project, I was able to choose from a myriad of stone and colors. The quality and workmanship of the masons was above and beyond what I expected. The stone is beautiful and it was all done in a timely manner and at a fair price. For stone veneer this is the place!!"

"Nick's Chimney were wonderful. They figured out what was the actual cause of our crumbling flue and fixed it, for less than another company wanted to just repair, but to solve the problem."

"From the very beginning, Jamie Shea was easy to work and very personable. He helped us pick the right color and proper stone to update the look of the fireplace. Once we selected the stone, Jamie made a site visit to measure the fireplace and walk us through the process. From the day we signed the contract to the date of the install, he was prompt and courteous. The mason crew Jamie works with, were prompt, courteous and did outstanding work. We couldn’t be happier with the finished project. The fireplace is a now beautiful focal point in our living room. I would highly recommend Fireside Hearth and Home. And if you are lucky enough to work with Jamie Shea, you will very be pleased with his positive, can do attitude."

"I initially contacted CK Tile and Stone in May and they said they were swamped as a result of their 'Big Deal' promotion $550 for 40 Sq ft of back splash till end of July (fancy designs, materials, could cost extra). We decided that we'd wait for things slow down for them. Then in July they said they had a cancellation and could fit us in.
We had already purchased our tiles and we took longer to come up with a design for the section above the range while they were on-sitee. We had an additional area at the table next to the pantry that that worked on as well. This was a 2 day effort to let the grout/tile adhesives to dry. They were accommodating to our design ideas and provided ideas of their own.
The overall workmanship and quality looks great! They cleaned up the left over debris and materials. They came back a 3rd day since we requested additional caulking and sealing (for the limestone tiles). We are very satisfied and would love to have them over to do the same when we decide to finish our basement!

FAQs for brick or stone siding: repair or partially replace projects in Champlin, MN

Stone veneer isn’t a weekend DIY. Even lightweight faux panels are heavy and must be anchored, flashed, and sealed to keep water out. Missteps can lead to cracked stone, leaks, or injuries. A licensed siding contractor arrives with scaffolding, masonry tools, and the know-how to set each piece safely and neatly, giving you a long-lasting, professional finish.

Stone veneer durability is robust when expert installation and proper maintenance are employed. When installed with precision, regularly cleaned, and sealed as required, stone veneer maintains its integrity for 25 to 75 years. Inadequate installation, however, leads to water intrusion and structural issues that compromise its longevity. Consistent upkeep and adherence to quality installation standards ensure decades of reliable performance.

Covering the entire exterior of a home with stone veneer is feasible but comes with a significant cost increase. Full coverage escalates both material and labor expenses due to the additional square footage required. Many homeowners reduce costs by applying stone veneer selectively—such as around entries, foundations, or architectural accents—while still achieving an upscale appearance and enhancing overall curb appeal.

Installing stone veneer over brick or stucco is entirely possible when the underlying surface is stable and properly prepared. The substrate must be clean, dry, and free of any loose material to support a secure application. Additionally, any areas of flaking stucco or deteriorated mortar must be patched and allowed to cure fully before a professional applies the new veneer, ensuring lasting durability.

Stone veneer siding offers a substantial cost advantage compared to full-thickness natural stone. It costs 25% of the price of natural stone because it is manufactured from concrete and lightweight aggregates. This method delivers the genuine appearance of stone while featuring a thinner profile that simplifies shipping, accelerates installation, and consistently reduces material expenses.

For a 250 square foot exterior area, stone siding installation costs range from $9,800 to $18,000, while installing stone veneer costs between $5,000 and $6,000. This clear cost breakdown demonstrates the significant savings achieved with stone veneer, which uses a lighter construction method that minimizes both material and labor expenses. Homeowners benefit from these lower costs while still attaining the attractive look of natural stone.
