"I called multiple roofing vendors. Most would companies could not be bothered with considering doing a small job. While Walter Brown did not do the original install of my roof, but they definitely did not hesitate to offer to help. From Alicia who answered the phone to Tyler and Lisa who helped getting me on the schedule. Lisa, Tyler - thank you. If I need any type roofing services in the future, I will not hesitate to call Walter Brown. Thanks again."

"Once again, AMS Home Remodeling, Frank, was able to clean up my mess.  After ordering a closet organizer unit online. I made the mistake of hiring another company to install the units - 3 total (2 reach in and 1 master).  This original company did not know what they were doing and caused me nothing but more problems (i.e. holes in walls, damaged pieces from closet unit that needed to be replaced, etc).  Frank was able to make time in his all ready busy schedule to come out to take a look at the mess.  He was able to get me into the schedule and complete the install and all repairs from previous contractors by the end of the week.  Frank and his crew (Bruno plus 1) did more than an outstanding job.  Final product is amazing.  I have used AMS Home Remodeling for a complete makeover in my home and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for an honest dependable contractor.  I absolutely LOVE these guys.
Frank - thank you!!!!

"Price – The original estimate was reasonable, BUT – the contract called for progress payments that provide Ruxton with close to 90% of project cost when less than 30% of the project is complete; Angie’s list advertised $800 discount was immediately eliminated by contract wording; close reading of contract showed that home owner will pay for any overages on selection allowances, but will not receive credit for those selections that come in under the allowance; we discovered that items shown on Ruxton drawings but not included in the contract will be at owners cost plus all appliances are at owners cost; we had requested that barn doors be included in our project. We were told they were expensive to obtain and agreed to pay $2400 apiece for them. Later we discovered they were procured from Home Depot for $499 apiece and installed in about 4 hours plus several hours for staining. Our contract specified the installation and ducting for a gas fireplace with a $2800 fireplace allowance. We selected one of the lower cost gas fireplaces for $3200 and agreed to pay the additional $400. When the job was already 45 days late we were informed that we would also be responsible to pay for the ducting cost, $1000, and fireplace installation cost, $1500. After several discussions, Ruxton agreed to cover half of the $1500 installation cost. Quality – The design and completed work has been good, BUT – rework was a constant frustration; ceiling above bar area was installed too high and had to be lowered; proposed glass shelf area was built only 3 inches deep and was eliminated by owner to reduce rework; two other shelf areas by barn doors were built too high and had to be modified; three solid wood doors were ruined during the staining process and had to be replaced; part of engineered hardwood floor was loose and had to be removed and reinstalled; two other areas of the hardwood were gouged during appliance installation and had to be pulled up and repaired; custom book shelves were ordered 12 inches deep instead of contract specified 18 inches deep and had to be modified on site; the electrician installed the wrong switches which had to be replaced; electrical wiring was not installed correctly resulting in finished wallboard having to be removed and replaced; and a twenty amp electrical line for a planned microwave was pulled but blocked by shelf installation and is not available. The bathroom shower tile was installed leaving out the trim tile. The owners removed the tile before the glue set up. We gradually lost confidence in Ruxton’s ability to work without oversight and towards the end of the job canceled a vacation to be home monitoring the work. Despite the difficult construction process, we are generally pleased with the appearance of our new family room and bath. Responsiveness – Most of the above quality issues have been corrected by Ruxton. After many complaints by the homeowner, Ruxton made some efforts to improve the rate of progress on the job. Unfortunately their efforts were too little and too late to make any real schedule improvement. Punctuality - The contract specified that the project would be completed in two months. The project has extended to over four months, more than twice the estimated duration. In addition to the issues describe elsewhere which caused delays, the project was prolonged because it was only staffed an average of two and one half days a week. We were informed that Ruxton was unable to staff the project full time due to sickness and medical issues of their contractors, contractor doctor and dental appointments, higher priority projects, contractor truck problems, and contractor personal issues. Several times subcontractors were scheduled to meet with the Ruxton foreman at the jobsite at 8am. However, the Ruxton foreman was usually not punctual forcing the homeowner to describe the work to the subcontractor. Professionalism – Frank Zeberlein’s architectural design for our project was good. Communication with Frank Zeberlein to resolve the many issues that arose during the project was very difficult. The three main Ruxton contractors that performed most of the work on our project treated us and our home with respect; however they all quit three weeks before job completion, and had to be replaced by Ruxton. Project management, coordination, and communication during construction were dismal. Frank rarely came to the site to check on progress even though his office is only 5 minutes away. The Ruxton design coordinator never visited our home. We made all of selections within the first two weeks of the contract, but many items were ordered late or not ordered by Ruxton. This resulted in delays waiting for cabinets, granite, tile, bathroom lights, and gas fireplace. The job foreman was constantly being distracted by other jobs and seemed to be unable to plan more than a day or two ahead. Materials for the job were picked up on an almost daily basis, instead of planning ahead and improving efficiency by purchasing supplies needed for the next few weeks. Scheduling of subcontractors was often untimely. Communication with us was poor throughout the project. We were routinely given milestone completion dates that were missed. Several times we were told what work would be done the next few days only to have the workers pulled off the job for several days to work elsewhere."

"The whole process was relatively smooth. the sales person was good and knowledgeable. After signing the contract, two person crew came to measure. It took about a month and a half before windows were ready. Scheduling during the winter was a bit difficult, but it was not their problem. In bad weather, I would not want them climbing a tall ladder to install the window. Install was done professionally. We are satisfied. We would use them again.

"We called to schedule an estimate for painting work on the interior and exterior of our home, in preparation for selling it.  Tony was very prompt and professional for this appointment, and provided a detailed estimate for both jobs very quickly. We hired him to paint the interior first, and after I told him that we had received a cheaper estimate form a reputable painting company, he readily agreed to match that price. We scheduled both jobs for the following week.  The large crew showed up on time and immediately got to work on the 4 interior rooms; large kitchen, family room, den and master bedroom.  What a crew!  They did a great job and we are thrilled with how the rooms look now. They finished all 4 rooms the first day.  The 2nd day, they arrived promptly and did another great job on the trim and shutters..Everything looks brand new, and they left our property very clean. I HIGHLY recommend Tony Touch Painting. Very good prices, great workmanship and the large crews are great to get the job done quickly.

"Jorge Lazo and his crew came in and painted 5 bedrooms, our master bathroom plus a large closet, ALL IN ONE DAY. They were punctual, in fact they were a little early, which is always very nice.  They were professional and very tidy. Jorge and his team did a great job in our home and I will definitely use them again when we paint the outside of our house. If you are looking for a painter who is reasonably priced, professional, punctual and very good at what he does, then I highly recommend Jorge Lazo.

"E&R Roofing did an excellent job.  Elliott was very responsive and accommodated my work schedule with an early morning estimate and work schedule.  I liked the fact that Elliott not only gave a reasonable estimate, but he was a member of the three man crew.  Elliott and his crew went above and beyond what I had requested by painting and caulking adjoining trim and window frames.  He took extra care to avoid damaging landscape plantings and patio structures in a very tight area.  Clean up was excellent and the crew was professional and very polite.  I would not hesitate to use E&R Roofing again.

FAQs for interior trim and decorative moldings installation projects in Churchton, MD

Installing crown molding can be challenging, depending on the material and your skill level. Lightweight materials like polystyrene and softwoods are easier for homeowners to install themselves, offering a cost-saving option. However, heavier materials like hardwoods and plaster are difficult to work with and require professional installation to achieve a high-quality result. Precision is crucial in measuring, cutting, and fitting crown molding, so hiring a professional ensures the best outcome.

Crown molding is available at various price points, ranging from $1 to $30 per linear foot, depending on the material. This wide range offers options for every budget. Affordable materials like MDF, PVC, and polystyrene provide cost-effective solutions, while premium materials like exotic hardwoods or metal offer a luxurious appearance at a higher cost. Regardless of your budget, you can find crown molding that enhances your home's aesthetic.

Crown molding is installed by professional finish carpenters or painters who specialize in detailed trim work. These experts possess the necessary skills and tools to ensure precise measurements, accurate cuts, and seamless installation. By hiring a professional, you can achieve a flawless finish that enhances your home's aesthetic appeal without the risk of common DIY mistakes.

Crown molding can be installed in various areas of your house to add elegance and architectural interest. It is commonly used where walls meet the ceiling, but you can also place crown molding around doors, windows, mirrors, and atop cabinets. Installing crown molding in these locations enhances visual appeal, creates a cohesive design, and adds a touch of sophistication to your home's interior.

To determine how much crown molding to purchase, start by measuring the length of each wall where you plan to install crown molding and add the measurements together to determine the total linear feet required. Purchase an extra 10% of material to account for waste from cutting angles and to ensure seamless joints by using full-length pieces when possible. Including additional material helps avoid shortages and ensures a smooth installation process.

For a professional crown molding installer, this task takes about 1 to 3 hours per room, depending on size and complexity. Factors like the material, design intricacy, and number of corners can affect the time. If you're doing it yourself, expect it to take longer as you get the hang of measuring and cutting precise angles. Advanced measuring and planning or hiring a pro can help the project go smoothly.
