"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"Howard and his team were great and my kitchen looks better than I expected. Quality of work is excellent. I also appreciated how Howard kept me abreast of what was going to happen and when. It made it much easier to organize a busy family around the remodel. Howard's services are in demand and we had to wait a little bit to get on his schedule, but it was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend him to friends and use him again."

"One workman was sent over to fix leak. Work took one hour, for which we were charged $1600. We thought we had an emergency situation. THE COMPANY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION. Even if the work was done properly, The fee for one hour of work is outrageous"

"Lambert's Landscape & Lawncare says on their website "We show up!", and they really do! Anyone who has tried to hire service professionals has probably experienced the frustration of calls not returned, being ghosted at appointments, or never getting follow-up about quotes. But that's not Matt and his team -- I was so impressed with how responsive Matt was from the initial contact. I was also pleased when I got the quote and found it to be very reasonable. And I was even more impressed when they came to do the work. The guys put in a long day to finish our project, and their work exceeded my expectations. Even better, they impressed my husband (who openly admits he doesn't care about our landscaping and isn't inclined to spend much on maintaining it), so he's already on board with hiring them again in the future. So glad to have found our go-to landscaper!"

A truly great garden landscape relies on the relationship and communication between the client and the designer. The client provides needs, hopes and desires, while the designer studies the dynamics and challenges of the garden site. Together with visual cues from the design of the house and local landscape, an inspirational and functional garden design solution is created - a solution that reflects the personality and lifestyle of the client, and complements the design of the home. The landscape design is then translated into a Planting Plan that brings the garden to life.

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Columbus, OH

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
