"If you are looking for someone to do foundation work on your home or business, Engineered Foundation Solutions are the people to call! After contacting them through their website, I was contacted the next day to set an appointment for an estimate. They worked with my schedule and I met with Brian within 5 days. I explained to Brian my problem and they developed a plan to solve it . I had an proposal in 3 days. After I sent my down payment and they put me on their schedule, Shannon their office manager contacted me every Friday to keep me updated that they were still coming on that date. Jeff their engineer, came to my house a week before work was to start to go over the work to be performed and answer my questions. Their work crew was very friendly and professional. From day one, I felt like they cared about solving my problem and that we were part of their family. I highly recommend Engineered Foundation Solutions for all you foundation repair needs!"

I am a Swingset and Playset installer and builder. I have 10 years Experience. I have exclusive contracts with some of the largest Playset makers in the country. I only use the newest and most up to date equipment including laser and digital leveling systems. ABSOLUTE LEVEL means level down to 1/100th of an inch. I have a ZERO DROP policy that any hardware that hits the ground, all work must stop until picked up. This assures no screw or bolt will ever be found at my work site. Safety is a major concern and I NEVER take it lightly. I inspect all material upon arrival through the install process and NEVER accept payment until the customer and I have done a Complete Inspection off all work and Detailed explanation of all safety features the playset may have.

"I called RIT Construction after experiencing unexpected plumbing issues with the sink. They came to my house in less than 24 hours to fix it. They’ve since returned to my house to assist with other repairs. They are polite, easy to work with, and complete tasks quickly and thoroughly. Very cost effective as well. I would highly recommend them to any home owner in need of repairs."

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Cranberry Township, PA

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
