"Clark Companies of MN did an AMAZING job installing our gravel driveway. They took their time and made sure it was exactly how we wanted it. The guys asked us along the way how we liked it, of course we said we loved it! Weâ ve been living in our new build for about 8 months with use of only half our driveway, Clark Companies of MN came in quickly, reasonably priced and now we can finally use our whole driveway!!"

"It went well. Tony was very accomodating in helping us pick out pavers, blocks, and rock. He accommodated our budget too. The end result is beautiful--it is both modern and at fits our older house and neighborhood. Tony and the crew were friendly and respectful."

"We hired them to custom build a fence in our backyard, to match our neighbor's fence in design and style. When digging the post holes, they managed to break a piece of our house siding off. Furthermore, many post holes were dug on our neighbor's property (despite surveyor's stakes) and had to be removed and reinstalled. Things didn't get better as the project progressed. First, despite assuring us they would be able to match our neighbor's fence, the fence they built was a foot shorter and the custom design was very poorly executed. After negotiations, we ended up with a nice fence as long as you don't know it is supposed to match the neighbors. The office staff were always very pleasant and professional. They paid for and coordinated repairing our siding. Overall though, we would not use this company again.

"My backyard looks great! Mike, the landscaping manager, was great to work with. He was on time for the initial appointment for the estimate; he had the estimate emailed back to me that evening. They were able to come out quickly to start the work and worked with me on my schedule to make it a two day project due to some other work I was having done (had an irrigation system and privacy fence installed, that messed their schedule up a bit, but they were very accommodating). The crew was good; they cleaned any mess up as if they were never there. They were very customer service focused and went out of their way to make sure I was happy with all the work and to make sure there was nothing else I needed once they finished up. Next year I plan to tackle my front yard and I will definitely be calling them back.

"Nate from Handyman Connection of Eden Prairie was incredibly refreshing to work with. He was very professional, reliable, fair, and efficient in communicating from the start of the job to the end. The quality of work and attention to detail was outstanding, something that is very hard to find these days unfortunately. I am already under contract for him to build our deck and help finish the basement next year. 10 out of 10!"

"During the process of getting estimates I contacted Mill City. Got my estimate and then made a few revisions as I thought about the project. Emailed them to get a revised estimate. After several days of no reply I called. Spoke with the estimator and he said he'd get it revised. A week goes by and nothing. So I email again. Still nothing. So I leave a voicemail. Still nothing. I couldn't wait any longer so I went with someone else. I can't speak to the quality of their work, but their communication is terrible. Or they just don't think $7000 is a big enough job to care about."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Crystal-bay, MN

Most shed foundations benefit from a gravel layer four to six inches deep after proper compaction. The exact depth may vary depending on your specific soil conditions, climate, and shed weight. In areas with poor drainage or for heavier structures, contractors might recommend slightly deeper installations. Building the pad in multiple compacted layers rather than a single thick pour helps achieve optimal stability and load distribution.

Gravel pads cost significantly less than concrete foundations. While gravel materials run about $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, concrete slabs average $6 per square foot. For a standard shed base, this price difference translates to substantial savings. Beyond the initial cost advantage, gravel pads also offer easier installation, simpler modifications if needed, and don't require specialized concrete finishing skills.

For a standard 10-by-12 shed pad, you'll need enough gravel to cover 120 square feet at the recommended depth. At rates of $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, expect to spend $150 to $216 on gravel materials alone. Remember to factor in extending the pad beyond the shed's dimensions by one to two feet on each side for better drainage and stability, which increases the actual area needed.

The ideal gravel for shed foundations combines stability with proper drainage capabilities. Crusher run ($0.40 per square foot) makes an excellent base layer because it contains various particle sizes that lock together when compacted. For top layers, angular gravel provides better drainage while maintaining stability. Avoid perfectly round decorative stones as they don't compact effectively and may shift under weight, compromising your shed's stability over time.
