"Jeff is great. The furniture came out looking beautiful. It took more time than I expected for the furniture to be finished but quality often takes time. He fixed some of the gouges in the chairs and refinished everything. The color was apparently very difficult to match but he did a great job. I'm very happy with the outcome and so glad my furniture looks new. The final wax is absolutely beautiful."

"Floyd of Woodchuck Woodworking of Atlanta was a pleasure to deal with. He always returned calls quickly, and is clearly an expert craftsman. The chair was fully repaired over a weekend, and appears as if no harm had ever befallen it. I highly recommend Woodchuck Woodworking of Atlanta for any custom furniture or repair."

"I inherited my great grandmother's dining room table and it had gotten broken in a move a couple of decades back.  I finally decided it was time to fix it and put it in use.   William's Furniture Repair sent me an initial basic quote over email (via sending photos of my dining set).  At that time, I agreed to move forward.  They picked up the dining table set and took the time to explain a little about the set to me as well as provide more specific options for its repair/refinish.   I provided a down-payment on the project and then the table was moved to their workshop.  Later, I was called to the workshop to choose the color of the stain as well as drop off the material for the seat covers.  A short time after this, the table was dropped back off to my house. <br /> The table turned out beautifully.  It was amazing to have the table and chair not only be functional again, but to look amazing.  They did an excellent job so I also got a quote for my breakfast table.  This project will move forward within the year.   <br /> <br />"

"I can't remember the price but it wasn't much. It was a good price. They were very friendly and very informative. They came when they were supposed to. They picked it up when they were supposed to. And they delivered it when they were supposed to. It was an overall great experience. They came all the way from Gainesville, came on time and stayed in touch."

"Michael is very friendly, professional, listens carefully to your needs, and above all is very very good at what he does.  When I took him our busted table I handed him a gallon zip-lock bag full of the pieces from the shattered edge.  This seemed like an absolute nightmare to me but he carefully laid out the pieces and told me exactly how he would repair the table.  This was very detailed work and he did an absolutely beautiful job.  Plus he didn't stop at just fixing the shattered edge he also polished the entire table including the top surface which got rid of an old water ring from a glass. The table also had a slight wobble and Michael fixed that too!   <br />  Due to the tedious nature of the repair he had to work on it a little at a time and after two weeks he called to tell me it was all finished.  My wife didn't know I took the table to have it repaired and she was absolutely amazed when I brought it home!  We still have a hard time finding the side where he did the repair.  It looked better than it did before our dog knocked it over. <br />  He only charged $80 for the work but I gave him $100 for the great work.  I could not recommend this place enough!  We currently have our antique radio there getting completely refinished."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Cumming, GA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
