"The estimate was a bit higher than the other estimates I received, though I think it was a very fair price.  He was extremely professional and really seemed to know what he was doing; although I did not hire him for this job I thought he seemed extremely competent and trustworthy, and I would definitely consider him for future refinishing jobs."

"The chairs were blue with antique glaze. Chairs were picked up and returned in the timeframe promised. Anne stripped every chair and painted them with the exact color we chose, gave them a slight antique look, cleaned the ruched seats and tightened the entire structure of the chair. They are BEAUTIFUL!! She was honest, straightforward, meticulous and her pricing was fair and reasonable. Would definitely use this service again."

"Gary evaluated the piece and offered some suggestions on how to go about restoring the cabinet so that I could use it as an entertainment center with a television on top. The cabinet was restored and fitted with shelves for components. You can't tell that there were alterations made and Gary even succeeded in preserving some original details that might well have been lost. <br />"

"Best experience ever with a contractor. Extremely professional and very attentive to detail. Looks like the entire cabinet was replaced with new. Much more affordable then replacing all the cabinets. Our salesman Joe DeLuca was very professional and absolutely no pressure presentation. Scott's craftsmanship was perfect. Love Kitchen Magic"

"Nancy was very professional.  She was able to make our chairs look like new.  We had custom chairs that were wrapped in bark. Nancy stripped them and was able to refinish them in black to match a pair of Chinese Antique Chairs.  She also was able to fix them so they were no longer weak as they were over twenty years old.  These were custom chairs and I was so happy  that we are able to keep them.  We would have no hesitation recommending Nancy and plan to use her for other projects we have.  My husband is in the stone business and is very particular with work that is done for us.  He was extremely impressed with Nancy's work and was able to view first hand the work performed in her shop <br />"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Dayton, NJ

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
