"Quality windows at reasonable prices and with excellent customer service. We had a fantastic experience replacing all of the original windows in our home. Everyone was patient as we learned about the process and were quick to respond to questions and changes with our estimate. Installation crew members were friendly and respectful and cleaned up after themselves nicely."

"Abraham and his team were a fantastic help. Their service was life changing for our family. We live in a 120 year old home that had almost no insulation in the walls. Our HVAC could never keep up on cold, windy days. The last 3 winters there were times we had to go stay elsewhere as the home was too cold. Fast forward to this winter, after they completed the work we saw an immediate return. Bills went down and the home is comfortable. Heck there were times our HVAC stopped since it was so warm! They were very professional and worked around our hectic schedule. I would fully recommend them to anyone in need of insulation services."

"We found Farm and Home at the KC Home show. We needed siding and windows. John came out and gave us a quote for both. We had interviewed 3 other companies and found they didn't know as much or were mush higher priced. John had extensive knowledge and answered all our questions. They installed the siding first and the windows were installed a couple of weeks later. The installation teams did a great job. They were respectful and cleaned everything up each night. I called John a couple of times with questions and he called me right back the same day. The installer found an issue with something under the old siding, and went to the hardware store, got what he needed, and repaired it. No additional charge to us. I had a question about the hole plugs in the windows so I called the main number and the call was answered right away and resolved. This has been a great experience start to finish. Thank you to John and his team!"

"We built our dream home in 1983 and raised our four children in it. Like nine people out of ten in America, we want to live out the rest of our years in our home. Having preemptively purchased long term care insurance to help pay for future in-home medical and support services, we also understood the need to remodel a portion of our multi-level home so that we could live on one floor, when future personal mobility issues would become a factor in our daily living routines. We visited with a number of remodeling contractors at several home shows and chose Red House Remodeling (RHR). Located in Valley Junction in West Des Moines, Iowa, they are a small company of five highly competent individuals that take pride in doing great work and experience a sense of accomplishment from making positive changes in the lives of their customers. Ben, as the contractor, is an honest and direct communicator. He is a systemic thinker, process driven, and highly organized, which mitigated hassles for us and allowed RHR to come in on budget. He was always willing to take the time necessary for us to understand the reasons for any pandemic related delays. COVID-19 has been a huge challenge, as supply chain disruptions have caused certain materials to be out of stock, creating delays in construction. Ben communicated these issues on a timely basis. Stephanie handles administration and marketing for the company. She was prompt and courteous in our requests for information. Jenna, using 3D software, helped us create and visualize the finished project months before the demolition and construction of our home actually began. She paid close attention to our wish list while providing a young professional’s perspective on what it would take to modernize our home. She provided attractive “Plan B” alternatives when COVID related delays forced us to look for different materials to install Chris and Troy are highly skilled construction professionals, that excel in doing quality work in an efficient manner. RHR was a great fit for our project. They understand what is needed to make a home viable for aging in place. We were very comfortable working with them. Finally, for anyone considering home renovation, it’s important to be flexible and willing to tolerate disruption when living in your house during the construction process. We found that the beautiful finished product was well worth the temporary inconvenience. Bill Taber & Susan Taber, Des Moines, Iowa"

"Brand new deck railing — contacted the owner for an estimate. He worked closely with us on designing exactly what we wanted. We have a 10 acre pond behind our home and wanted the ability to see it clearly, yet needed a deck railing. David and his employees were surprisingly (most contractors march to the beat of their own clock!) punctual and professional. They mapped out the most ideal structure to maximize our view. We could not be happier with their hard work, expertise, listening skills, and care and concern for what we wanted. VERY impressed!! I would hire this company to do any repairs, additions, replacements, etc."

FAQs for new windows service projects in Des Moines, IA

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
