"John was very honest in sending me a prompt email explaining that the job refinishing our decks was too large a job for him as he works mostly alone without a large crew. So he declined our project very professionally and honestly. i think he would be great on smaller jobs! <br />"

"Michael and son arrived early, performed their work in a clean, orderly, and quiet fashion fashion. Protected nearby furniture, walls and flooring. Left a spectacular result, chairs that looked like new. Removed sun fading, scratches, and discoloration with their superb process. Couldn't be happier. The only reason I rated price as good was regardless of the result, $800 for two chairs is a superb value not necessarily an excellent price."

"I've used this company before, and the great job they did before and the reasonable price were the two primary reasons for using them again. Axel, the owner, has assembled a group of great craftsmen, including team leads with exceptional experience, responsibility and commitment to excellence. During the five days the job took, I felt completely comfortable in my interfaces with the team - and Axel was always available if there were any higher level questions or issues. At one point when Axel was temporarily out of town, I asked the team lead how he felt about the boss's absence. His answer, given with a smile, was simple: "He trusts me." What more can one say about the kind of people Axel employs and the kind of manager Axel is. Whenever there were concerns, the team immediately listened and responded. They also did several small but significant add-ons that weren't in the written proposal without changing their price. Before the job began, when Axel and I went over the job description I mentioned two key requirements: color coordination of the three different products required to refinish the house, and careful cleaning of the numerous windows after the job was done. Now that the job is complete, my wife and I are so pleased by how well the colors coordinate between semi-transparent stain, solid stain, and paint: slightly different to add interest, but completely compatible. It's as if we have a new house instead of its actual 30 years. And the windows look like a professional window cleaner did the job. (We've had the house refinished multiple times over the years. And in almost every prior job, I've had to hire a window cleaner to come by and clean up the mess on the windows caused by the power washing and the bleeding of the stain spraying.) Finally, I'll say this about Axel himself. He's a very savvy craftsman in his own right, he listens well and is clear and to the point in discussions, and he maintains a friendly, poised, and customer-driven demeanor. Needless to say when we need a company to work with us on future painting projects, we'll stick with Axl Custom Painting."

"Dennis repaired/refinished a 6 panel fir door that had been scratched by a large dog.  The door was very scratched and looked awful.  He repaired it, and I can't really tell that it had every been scratched.  He took about 2 hours to do the work right inside the house.  He didn't need to take the door off.  Since Dennis owns the business, he can be counted on to do good work. <br />"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Divide, CO

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
