"I changed from a tub surround to a walk-in shower due to mobility issues. Sam, the estimator was very nice. I donâ t think I asked enough questions at the time of the quote or fully understood the dimensions provided. The step going into the shower was higher than I was anticipating. With my mobility issues, itâ s a little more difficult for me to step into a 6 - 7 inch lip instead of the 4-5 inches I was thinking. Might not sound like much, but when itâ s difficult to lift your leg 3 inches off the floor having to increase to 6-7 becomes a big deal. Due to a temporary wall for my old surround, I signed a change order ( per their engineer) to build a 6 inch wall taking space from my linen closet. When Simon came to perform the install, he did not build a 6 inch wall. Instead, since they were able to attach their studs to the ceiling and floor joists they did not need to build the extra wall. The change order did not mention this possibility. And, now my linen closet needs to be redone as the space increased by about 4 inches. So, thatâ s additional work Iâ ll have to pay someone else to complete and I have no space to put my towels until then. They also needed to remove an existing towel bar on the right side as their trim needed the space. The cost to replace will also have to be included with work on the closet. I did not understand that I would loose about 6 inches of shower space; I can touch both sides of shower without stretching. I also wanted to use my own shower head and wand, but I received their standard shower head as it was included in the standard install package. While the install was performed well, when l took a shower the next day, the water trickled out. My son-in-law came over that evening and when he removed the shower head, there was so much black debris from the plumbing work that covered the bottom of the shower and the shower head was clogged. He ran the water without a shower head to flush everything out, installed my old shower head and it everything works great. I was told I could ask for a non-slip coating at no cost (with mobility issues thatâ s a no brainer!) and Gregg came out to apply the coating, installed longer screws for the bumpers for both shower doors as the screws installed came out, provided a bottom guide for the inside shower door (not initially installed) as well as replaced the ends of the shower door towel bars with a finger divot (not sure what itâ s really called) to assist with moving the shower door once you step inside. Because of my mobility issues, Iâ m glad to have the walk-in shower but not glad of the extra work and cost to finish the bathroom from items they affected."

"I initially contracted for just a bathtub refinishing. The tub ended up so sparkling and new looking that the worn bathroom floor looked horrendous. So I asked them about flooring, ultimately purchasing a floating laminate to put over the ugly tiled floor. We repeated the flooring in the other bathroom. The entire process was efficient, timely, and reasonably priced."

FAQs for bathtub liner or shower surround installation and replacement projects in Durham, NC

A bathtub liner is a custom, one-piece shell that slips over your existing tub to hide cracks, stains, and chips. Most are molded from tough acrylic or PVC and can include a matching wall surround for a complete facelift. When a pro bonds the liner in place, you get a watertight seal, a fresh look, and an added layer of safety—all without tearing out the old tub.

After a tech measures your tub and orders a made-to-fit shell, installation takes a day. The installer cleans the surface, applies industrial-grade adhesive, and positions the liner in place. They trim the edges, tighten the drain, and run a smooth bead of silicone caulk to lock out moisture. A quick plumbing check wraps things up, leaving you with a ready-to-use tub by the next morning.

You can pick preset sizes or order a liner molded to your tub’s exact shape, then choose from dozens of colors, patterns, and finishes to match—or refresh—your bathroom. A pro trims and fits the shell on-site, so every contour lines up and accessories like grab bars or shelving land exactly where you want them.

If the liner’s material accepts a fresh coating, a professional can sand it, apply epoxy, and restore the shine in six hours for $480. Swapping in a brand-new liner runs $800 to $1,000 and takes a day or less. Refinishing is the wallet-friendly route when the shell is structurally sound, but it won’t last as long as starting over with new acrylic.

Most liners last three to five years. High-quality acrylic, a snug professional fit, and routine cleaning help you reach the upper end of that range. If moisture seeps behind the shell, mold and odors can shorten its life, so keep an eye out for loose caulk or soft spots and call a professional if you spot trouble early.
