"The Surface Doctors treated my shower and tub in 2020. They were prompt, polite, and the cost and process was exactly as described. Recently, I noticed a chip in the tub floor, probably from a dropped bottle, and that in some spots the caulk had separated. So I contacted them again to schedule a time to repair it. Again, our technician Jorge, the same person who did the original work, was right on time, exceptionally polite, and completed the work efficiently. In fact, he was done in about 30 minutes. I couldn't be happier!"

"We love our new bathtub, surround and shower doors! Don and Carol came out to give us a price and two weeks later we had a beautiful bathroom. Ken the installer was very professional and very meticulous in his work. He was awesome and did a fantastic job. He always arrived on time and cleaned up very well. We are very happy with Bathcrest of Chicago!"

"Great experience overall. Originally hired this firm just to refinish a bathtub although I had many other repairs to do. While assessing the bathtub job, Matt offered, for a very fair price, to replace the tub faucets and new vanity that I had purchased . He also found where water had gotten into the wall behind the tub faucet and made the wall soggy. He was able to remove the tile, repair the wall, and replace the tile, without additional charge. After beautifully finishing the bathroom, I asked Matt to quote on removing a kitchen cabinet and repairing and painting the drywall around it. He did a fabulous job, again for a great price. Then I asked him to paint the garage door and porch ceiling. All the work has been done well. I use this firm repeatedly because of the work quality and price."

"During the great freeze of '19 we got some water damage in our town home. Laminate floors destroyed and some minor wall damage but we took the opportunity to not only replace the floors but upgrade them across the whole first level and replace our aging cabinetry and powder room. We received several quotes and XLT Home Pro / Cabinet Tree Studios was in the median range price wise (one popular and highly rated design/build contractor was actually 3x their price and schedule duration!) and seemed to be enthusiastic about the job so we called them back and tweaked a couple requests. Within a week we had an amended quote and we signed. About two weeks later we had cabinet delivery and due to one of their other projects being slightly delayed they were able to push our project forward and started demo about a week after that. Week 1: Demo lasted about two days and they did their best to maintain order and keep the mess out of the rest of the home. They also took great care to save our granite counter tops to be reused. New can lights were installed with dimmer and the fridge water was line re-routed through a soffit. Over the next few days they laid wood look ceramic tile over the entirety of the on slab floor and installed the cabinets. Week 2: New tile backsplash installed and appliances quickly reinstalled to get our kitchen in semi working order for the duration of the project. Walls were patched and primed and new trim and casings installed in several locations with the bulk of the painting being completed. Week 3: Two or three days of final paint and punch list. Their crew was top notch. Everyone was friendly, polite and any small issue that arose was quickly corrected to our satisfaction. We added a few extra things in that were missed on our part and they were fair on the price. In a couple years we're planning a master bath remodel and I would without hesitation hire them again."

"It took about two and one half hours to do.  Smell is strong but that's what comes with it.  Looks beautiful.  Am wondering how long it will hold up with that shiny finish.  I had same tub done 10 yrs ago.  That held up reasonably well.  I'm concerned about this tub.  Looks too good to be true.

"Sam performed the work professionally, expediently, and without taking extended breaks.  The final product was beyond my expectations.  He turned my 60+ years-old bathtub into a gleaming gem!   Everyone who has seen it asks if I had a new bath installed - REALLY!
Thank you, Sam.

FAQs for bathtub liner or shower surround installation and replacement projects in Chicago, IL

A bathtub liner is a custom, one-piece shell that slips over your existing tub to hide cracks, stains, and chips. Most are molded from tough acrylic or PVC and can include a matching wall surround for a complete facelift. When a pro bonds the liner in place, you get a watertight seal, a fresh look, and an added layer of safety—all without tearing out the old tub.

After a tech measures your tub and orders a made-to-fit shell, installation takes a day. The installer cleans the surface, applies industrial-grade adhesive, and positions the liner in place. They trim the edges, tighten the drain, and run a smooth bead of silicone caulk to lock out moisture. A quick plumbing check wraps things up, leaving you with a ready-to-use tub by the next morning.

You can pick preset sizes or order a liner molded to your tub’s exact shape, then choose from dozens of colors, patterns, and finishes to match—or refresh—your bathroom. A pro trims and fits the shell on-site, so every contour lines up and accessories like grab bars or shelving land exactly where you want them.

If the liner’s material accepts a fresh coating, a professional can sand it, apply epoxy, and restore the shine in six hours for $480. Swapping in a brand-new liner runs $800 to $1,000 and takes a day or less. Refinishing is the wallet-friendly route when the shell is structurally sound, but it won’t last as long as starting over with new acrylic.

Most liners last three to five years. High-quality acrylic, a snug professional fit, and routine cleaning help you reach the upper end of that range. If moisture seeps behind the shell, mold and odors can shorten its life, so keep an eye out for loose caulk or soft spots and call a professional if you spot trouble early.
