"Finish Pros are fantastic professionals. They refinished my husband's grandfather's handmade coffee table, and it looks brand new. They were affordable and efficient. I highly recommend them."

"I hired them to refinish a Drexel heritage bedside table that had water damage. Mike came and picked up the piece and the work was done in five days and returned. The charge was very fair too. Thank you Mike "

"The work was done masterfully - we were pleased to get it back looking like new. I liked the additional attention to detail beyond the wood refinishing. They insured all the bolts and joints were firmly reset and quiet. We were very pleased with the craftwork."

"We got our cabinets refaced with Cabinet Cures a little over three years ago and everything was BEAUTIFUL but the finish on a few doors was cracking a little in the corners so we called up to see if they would honor their 5 year warranty and fix. They were super responsive, came out the next day to pick up the doors, and just a few days later we have doors as good as new. So impressive! Not every company would give you a no hassle warranty response like that. Everyone involved was cheerful, kind, and very responsive. The work they did for us when we initially did our project was transformative and beautifully crafted. We love it every day. That they fixed the minor finish issues so readily makes me even more pleased we worked with this great company. They stand by what they sell."

"Paul McDonald is an experienced, outstanding cabinet maker and craftsman. In our first meeting he took the time to listen to our ideas and plans, and then put together really great designs for our spaces. We were very impressed by Paul's eye for design and detail. He had many suggestions and good ideas to made the spaces functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. He was also very receptive to our ideas. Paul is a true professional. He gave us a timeline for the project and kept us updated on progress as he began building the cabinets. With Paul there were no delays or surprises. He stuck to the planned schedule and installed the cabinets on time. His cabinets are of the highest quality - well-built, beautifully finished with workmanship far superior to commercial cabinets. He added numerous details and features that really enhanced the look and function of our space. We couldn't be happier with the results. We were so pleased with the home office and Murphy bed that we also asked Paul to design and install living room built-in bookcases and cabinets. We highly recommend Carpathian Woodworks!"

"We were disappointed to find that NC ('the furniture capital of the United States) had mostly chain or European and Asian import furniture. Prior to finding Refab Wood and the Alexander brothers (Mitch and Paul) we learned a lot about furniture quality and construction. The day we walked in the front door of Refab Wood and spoke with Mitch we never looked elsewhere. Prreviously, we took photos at a major upscale chain for a modern bed frame style we loved. The modern platform bed frame in the design showroom was exactly what we were looking for and we shared our pictures with Mitch. We then sat at a computer, where Mitchell mocked up the dimensions and design and created our own piece with modifications that we loved. We went to the work area and picked our wood and stain which remarkably arrived exactly as we envisioned them. We did the same with our dining room table and guestroom bed frame. Mitchell and Paul Alexander and their team are the real deal, as they say. You couldn't find a group of woodworkers that work harder and have the building history, passion and training for their craft. Refab Wood's design team is made up of young people who are old school in their approach to building and customer service. The Alexander's are third generation furniture builders. A small business, they were patient and helped us create beautiful pieces. Our dining room table and 6 chairs are an absolute work of art! I wake up every morning and say, "good morning table" as I leave my bedroom where the other magnificent piece they built-our bed is located. Both were designed from reclaimed wood from an old barn that was dismantled in Virginia. When I say they are sturdy-I've actually never experienced furniture of this quality (accept old antique pieces that were built by hand). The artwork and design and precision are absolutely priceless. In addition, they built our coffee table and the bed for our guestroom. Whether you like 'farmhouse' style, rustic or modern furniture Refab Wood and their team have the flexibility, design ingenuity and talent to design one of a kind masterpieces to your individual needs. We are so happy we found them! (Note: they also built our coffee table) We're sort of addicted :) as we decided to have them build one more piece - a bar stand for our entryway that we are currently working with Mitch on designing."

"The work was well done. The sofa looks better than it has in over 50 years. I grew up with this sofa as a child and it still sits better today than any new sofa I have ever sat on anywhere. It is solid, firm and supports the back and the body in a way sofas built today are just not built or designed to do. That is the reason I spent the money to have it rebuilt and recovered. I've waited for 25 years to have this work done. David was punctual, arriving on time, calling to schedule the delivery time, and delivering on time. He gave us an estimate of between $1600 and $1700, depending on what fabric I chose. He stayed on top of his subcontractor doing the upholstery work to insure the job was done in a timely fashion and the work was professionally completed. He invited us to come by and take a look at his location and see how the work is done, which we did. Since I used to do hand refinishing of antiques, rebuilding and reupholstery work, in another life time ago, so I am very familiar with all the aspects involved. It is difficult, dirty, and time consuming labor. David is set up to do dip stripping, however I prefer not to do this on my antiques. But I can say that the sofa has never looked or sat better than it does now. We have a great many pieces of furniture we have inherited which will need to have repair work done to, not necessarily complete refinishing, just repairs and minor refinishing. David will be called again. My only request that was not followed through on was that I did not receive the remainder of any unused fabric, and there were no protective sleeve caps made for the sofa to prevent wear, which the upholsterer would be expected to think about, as a long term protective measure against dirt, stains and wear on the sleeves. As an artist, I use all types of items in my creative work. So I wanted to use the remnants of this heavy gauge fabric."

"His work was superb, he is a real expert in this kind of work and his work is very professional. I couldn't be more pleased!!! He came out to our home and gave us a free estimate. He returned the next day, did the work in my house and he and his adult son completed the job after 2.5 hours. They worked carefully and diligently and even conditioned the leather in some faded spots. I wish I had done this sooner, the couch looks like new and we no longer sink into it when we sit, now that the springs are reattached. I am very pleased and recommend him highly for any furniture job involving leather repair. We would hire him again for any future leather furniture repair. <br />"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Durham, NC

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
