"I have to give a shout out to finish pros and Dan McKenzie and his team… I had a piece of furniture from the 1800s that was very sentimental to me as it was given to me after my godmother passed away. They restored the piece of furniture that was worn and faded back to its original look. It looks brand new! I could not be more happy with the outcome. Not to mention, Their service is top-notch. if you are looking for a company to restore your piece of furniture, give them a try. They are an A+ company with reasonable prices. I highly recommend them!!!! Thanks Finish Pro’s!!!!"

"I hired them to refinish a Drexel heritage bedside table that had water damage. Mike came and picked up the piece and the work was done in five days and returned. The charge was very fair too. Thank you Mike "

"<strong>$99 for $200 of Furniture Restoration, Repair or Refinishing for Projects totaling $500 or more!<br /> Purchased on: August 27, 2014<br /> Carolina Furniture Restoration<br /> </strong> <br /> Above is the coupon I  used. <br /> Since I had an excellent experience with this provider on multiple occasions I did not want to submit a poor review.  However, each time I sign on to Angie's list this request pops up and each time I look at the piece I see the problems (which is daily)  I decided to write the review so others would not be dissatisfies like I am still today. <br /> I am disappointed. <br />"

"We got our cabinets refaced with Cabinet Cures a little over three years ago and everything was BEAUTIFUL but the finish on a few doors was cracking a little in the corners so we called up to see if they would honor their 5 year warranty and fix. They were super responsive, came out the next day to pick up the doors, and just a few days later we have doors as good as new. So impressive! Not every company would give you a no hassle warranty response like that. Everyone involved was cheerful, kind, and very responsive. The work they did for us when we initially did our project was transformative and beautifully crafted. We love it every day. That they fixed the minor finish issues so readily makes me even more pleased we worked with this great company. They stand by what they sell."

"I visited Paul's workshop and immediately recognized his excellent workmanship. After looking at the old cabinet he drew a diagram based upon my needs and constructed it perfectly to fit in the space. He was punctual and kept me apprised of the approximate date for installation based on the boxes he had to order. He was right on time. Compared to his other jobs, mine was a very small one but he treated me just like he would a large carpentry job."

"Mitch et al built most of the furniture in our home. The latest has moved up in our list of favorite pieces. My husband and I saw dog crates built from reclaimed wood. We approached Mitch with a picture and the idea for what we wanted and once again they 'WOWED' us! See for your self!"

"The work was well done. The sofa looks better than it has in over 50 years. I grew up with this sofa as a child and it still sits better today than any new sofa I have ever sat on anywhere. It is solid, firm and supports the back and the body in a way sofas built today are just not built or designed to do. That is the reason I spent the money to have it rebuilt and recovered. I've waited for 25 years to have this work done. David was punctual, arriving on time, calling to schedule the delivery time, and delivering on time. He gave us an estimate of between $1600 and $1700, depending on what fabric I chose. He stayed on top of his subcontractor doing the upholstery work to insure the job was done in a timely fashion and the work was professionally completed. He invited us to come by and take a look at his location and see how the work is done, which we did. Since I used to do hand refinishing of antiques, rebuilding and reupholstery work, in another life time ago, so I am very familiar with all the aspects involved. It is difficult, dirty, and time consuming labor. David is set up to do dip stripping, however I prefer not to do this on my antiques. But I can say that the sofa has never looked or sat better than it does now. We have a great many pieces of furniture we have inherited which will need to have repair work done to, not necessarily complete refinishing, just repairs and minor refinishing. David will be called again. My only request that was not followed through on was that I did not receive the remainder of any unused fabric, and there were no protective sleeve caps made for the sofa to prevent wear, which the upholsterer would be expected to think about, as a long term protective measure against dirt, stains and wear on the sleeves. As an artist, I use all types of items in my creative work. So I wanted to use the remnants of this heavy gauge fabric."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Durham, NC

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
