Hello, my name is Louis Schwartz and I am the owner of Tiderunner Engineering & Design, P.C. I started my civil engineering business in 2004 to focus on the residential construction Industry. With over a decade of experience in the industry I have substantial knowledge in preparing plans for renovations and/or additions. I have also been reviewing plans in Suffolk and Nassau counties for code compliance written by others, structural analysis, and residential sanitary system design. I work very close with both contractors and homeowners and I enjoy supplying engineering support for contractors in the residential construction field. My company has been very successful over the years because I provide such a variety of services as both a structural engineer and a plan preparer. I have helped several residential contractors with building permit application preparation, grading and drainage plans, as well as acquisitions. If you are looking to work with the best in the business; look no further than Tiderunner Engineering & Design, P.C. Call me today to set up an appointment.

Amoia Cody Architects brings to its clients a philosophy in design that emphasizes the creation of environments for the individuals they serve. As architects, our first job is to listen. Architecture is about appropriateness. It is important that building, interior space and landscape are integral to place and context. Architecture is about Process not Style. No two building projects are the same; each requires a solution unique to the client, the program, and the site. It is the role of the architect to uncover the nature of each project and reveal its form. We are a registered architect in NY, LEED accredited and a member of the AIA and NCARB. For over 15 years we have been involved in numerous projects varying from wood frame houses to precast concrete office buildings, interior renovations to free standing towers, design competitions to physical construction and solar detoxification facilities to The Museum of Modern Art. One of the things that separate us from other architecture offices is our personal attention to our projects. We attend to every detail and meet our clients by coming to you and spend time discussing your needs. We also make ourselves available evenings and weekends as required. Another important aspect of our work is the way we work with our clients. We present multiple schemes and work with you to find exactly what you are looking for. We never pull another project out of a drawer and make it your project. We thrive on challenges and appreciate clients who ask questions.

Clear River Environmental is Long Islands Premier septic, cesspool, and sewer cleaning company. From minor service to Compleate installations services, no job is to big or to small. Our family of companies has been serving Long Island with pride for 25 years. We take all major credit cars cash and checks. Mention this ad for special discounts.

"This was our second time working with Clear River Environmental. They installed our new septic tank and leaching pool over a year ago for $7200. I was hesitant to use them again due to their lack of communication with regards to follow-up documents which were required by the Health Department. They attributed their lack of sending me the "as-builts" and other required certifications to having switched over their computers to a new system. Nevertheless, the issue was eventually resolved after numerous calls to their office. Fast forward to 11/19/20....I called them to install a future expansion pool which was required by the Health Department. I figured that they were at least familiar with the property and I had no complaints with the actual install from last time. Long story short...they cut through a gas line to our pool which necessitated a call to National Grid. They also destroyed large branches from a tree, a large portion of recently installed sod, as well as pavers and the curb cutout. Granted all of this damage is listed on their disclaimer, however I was a bit dismayed when they refused to compensate me for any of the bill that was required to do repair work. I understand that the owner is responsible for informing the seller of "underground perils," however I would also expect the professionals to ask the right questions before beginning a job. I would also expect professionals to consider something more than just the "repeat customer" discount to alleviate the buyer from some of the expense and stress caused by the damage of the gas line. This second job cost $5,300. Total money paid to Clear River Environmental = $12,500 . The repair to gas line cost me $900 . The pavers and curb have yet to be repaired."

FAQs for engineer structural projects in East Setauket, NY

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
