"Excellent service overall! The in-home design consultation was very smooth and helpful, and while the pricing was a bit more than we were budgeting for, we believe the investment in upgrading our closet spaces (7 in total!) will be well worth it. The removal of the old closets and patching work was all completed in a single day, and then the installation occurred the very next day. We're very excited to have a whole bunch of new closets to enjoy!"

"Rusty did superior work for us, refinishing our kitchen table right in our house. He was prompt, showing up at our house right on time, and getting the table refinished quickly and efficiently. He made the process move very smoothly, and took extra precautions to protect our walls and floors during the refinishing. The table looks great, and our friends and family noticed the improvements right away. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about Walker Furniture Services - they did exceptional work at a reasonable price, and the entire task could not have been easier for us. Outstanding company - highly recommend! "

"After shopping for barrel chairs I found that to replace my 2 chairs in the same quality was extremely expensive. As I felt the bones of the chairs were in excellent shape but the upholstery was old and tattered, I decided to find out how much reupholstering would cost. I called Clifton Upholstery and they responded immediately. After talking to Bob on the phone, he came to my home and presented material samples in the color choices I had asked for. The materials he presented were very high quality. I also decided to have him give me estimates on 4 cafe chairs and an office arm chair. After accepting his pricing on all, Clifton Upholstery came and picked up the chairs and the work was done and returned in a comfortable time frame (about 3 weeks). The quality of work exceeded my expectations and I am very happy with the results. If you have quality furniture that can be refurbished, it can be very cost effective and smart to do so. Call Bob at Clifton Upholstery. They are professional and provide quality work and I highly recommend them."

"I gave Marchese one star only because the job was mostly completed. The experience was horrible. Workers were rude and never on time; work was halted when workers were sent to another job; walls were damaged by improper tile removal (pounding on tile); workers washed tools in bathroom sink, clogging it, and bathtub; fixtures "disappeared" or were damaged; tile was installed outside shower where it should not have been; bullnose wasn't used (just grout and plastic); ceiling was damaged when tape was removed; and finally the company refused to "sister" a water-soaked ceiling beam. For this the insurance company paid them an extraordinary amount of money. I am still dealing with the fallout--two bathrooms and a ceiling that need repair and painting, which I would not let Marchese do because of the awful attitude of the workers and questions about their competence; and plumbing problems that have yet to be entirely resolved. Throughout the project both workers and the project manager lied to me so often that I felt I was being gaslighted. I have told Marchese that if any aspect of their work causes future problems, I will simply notify the MHIC. I kept photos of the damage and copies of my e-mails documenting the ongoing issues. I would never recommend this company to anyone."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Edgewater, MD

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
