"I could not have asked for a better job. Very professionally done and in the time frame originally indicated. I took several quotes and not only was Shane the best price, but I also had the best overall impression before I made my decision to use him. Other contractors said they would have to tear into a good bit of my sheet rock to get the job done. Shane said he would minimize any need to do so. When it was all done, Shane had figured out solutions that required no sheet rock damage whatsoever! This is a testament to his dedication to respect my home and a result of the careful planning that went into mapping out the project at the outset. I would highly recommend Shane to anyone that needs a good residential electrical contractor. I am completely happy with the work he did for me and would definitely use him again.

"

We got a Dream Baths business card from a friend who got it from the owner's wife when they had a casual chat in the meat department in Walmart.  We knew that a bath renovation was in our plans but it took another year before we were ready to proceed.  Dream Baths was our first interview for the job.  We originally planned to contact several other firms but after showing Mr. Thornton what we wanted done and listening to his ideas and proposal, we knew he was the man we needed.

Mr. Thornton juggled his schedule around our travel and entertainment plans so it was a month before any work actually started.  He kept us informed throughout the ordering and arrival of the supplies and was always available to answer any questions that we had.  They picked up the new water heater and vanity top from Home Depot for us (at no charge).  When it wouldn't fit into the available space, they returned it and brought in one that would fit.

The work crew was wonderful - polite, caring, hard-working, and clean!  If any questions arose, they asked us what we wanted before proceeding.  This was not an easy job.  Our house is old and so are the plumbing and electrical systems.  Each time a problem arose, the crew figured out the solution.  Example:  how do you hang a chandelier in a bathroom that's only 8 feet tall?

The only practical entry to the work area was through our bedroom.  The crew laid down floor coverings each morning and removed them at day's end.  They swept up any debris and dusted the furniture.  When the project was finished, we could move back into the work space without extensive cleaning.  That's a first for us with any remodeling project that we've ever done!

When it came time to settle our finances at the end of the project, I had projected at least $500-1,000 for extra work done.  Nope - Mr. Thornton said that there was no charge for the extras.  We only paid what was originally agreed upon.

We found several minor issues after the final payment (I needed my shower head raised higher and my husband had trouble replacing his shower head into the holder). Mr. Thornton and his crew have come back twice to make things right for us, even after getting all the money!  I definitely recommend this firm.

Mr. John Sherlock arrived at the time and date specified to give us an estimate.  He returned the following day with his assistant and performed the job in one day.  He installed 26 copper lightning rods on the flat roof of our 7,000 square foot home.  These rods were connected with 500 feet of heavy duty copper cable and were grounded at three points with ground rods going down through the drainpipes into the ground. All parts of the system were securely attached to the roof.  He did a neat job and cleaned up all excess materials.  We were very pleased with the job him did.  Since installation of the lightning rod system we have had no trouble with lightning striking the house or causing power outages or surges.

"We've got American Home Shield. So that kinda varies but united air temp has done some work for us. Probably a couple years ago, I think so. I think its two years ago. They did work on our air conditioning. Well you know with American Home Shield you only pay $75.00. You sign up for a year , its like something you subscribe to.  You call and contact American Home Shield and they have somebody contact you whose in line with their services and agrees to work with them. You pay $75.00 and if its not done correctly for each visit but if they come back twice you don't pay again. Its like 400 and something a year. Its fabulous, its fabulous. If you need plumbing , H VAC, lighting, its amazing. Its worth every dime. And if they can't fix it they replace it at no charge unless you want to upgrade There are some different companies but even when we refinanced our house they had us, no we bought another house in Winchester for our son. And they made us have it in with our policy and they use American Home shield. its fabulous and you don't have to do the searching or anything, If you aren't happy you just tell American Home shield. One time United Air Temp tried to talk us into , they did some plumbing work too, and they were going try to talk us into replacing it with a cheap model. That isn't American Home Shield policy its with the same thing or you can pay to upgrade. Pay the balance of an upgrade. We use it all the time. When my son has issues with his house I tell him just call American Home Shield. They guarantee they will be out within 72 hrs but its usually within 24 hours. We contacted them last week about my son's air conditioning. They came out right away, they had to order something. They had to come back out and they did last Wednesday and they fixed it."

"Nyma Home Improvement is the bee's knees. I moved into an unevenly remodeled 90 year old house that has some bugs to be sorted out. One of which was a range that conked out within the first few months of use. The replacement range arrived about 3/4 inch wider than anticipated and needed to be placed in a granite-top island that did not have a lot of wiggle room. Mr. J gave a window of time that he could show up and arrived as anticipated. When I asked if he could move an electrical outlet to accommodate the new appliance, he called two of his crew who also arrived ready for action. Moreover, Mr J minimized the clean up for the job by asking for, then placing sheets and towels in the kitchen to capture the dust. In little time, he and his crew had wheedled the granite on the island and moved the electrical outlet to snugly fit behind the new appliance. They voluntarily swept the floors and wiped the one countertop that was not covered. It is refreshing to do business with people who have pride of ownership, a can-do attitude, and provide excellent craftsmanship. The referrals have already begun!"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Edwardsville, AL

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
