"The owner, Jason Fails, was delightful to work with and spent a lot of time with us planning how to accomplish what we wanted. He wrote a detailed estimate for the base job and we agreed that I would add things (like the more extensive lighting) as we went along. He was very patient with me as the project came together and I was deciding what types of fixtures I wanted. He was also agreeable when I became particular about some of the fixtures and ordered them myself online. There were a few delays, but nothing that would count as real problems, and he was great about keeping in touch so that we knew what would happen and when. We had one subcontractor whose work we weren't happy with, and Jason stood behind us and got it taken care of. Jason was especially good in advising us on energy efficiency with our lights. Following his advice, we installed 12 LED lights flush in the ceiling and 4 CFLs in sconces on the walls. With all lights on and the room very bright, we use about 140 watts. In our usual comfortable configuration of partial LEDs dimmed, we use about 30 watts. In the end, we are very happy with the job he did, we love our new living room, and we would definitely hire him again. <br />"

"<br /> It was peak weather this early Sept and I could not even get one roofer to even call me about roof patch because leaking in an older lady's home, had no help, although crying and explaining I was desperate, please at least call, maybe you know someone, no roofer would call me back. About 3 roofers. And a few years earlier, a roofer, who works here only in the summer, who was going to remove and replace 2 metal roofing sheets, stood me up, saying parts never came in, and off he went to the lower 48. I kept it patched as best as possible, but it failed, as it only was a simple sealing which eroded away by snow and ice, causing the current leakage. <br /> <br /> I was very touched, relieved, and astounded by the excellent service and repair of Alaska's Chimney Service by Patrick, and the help of his very nice and helpful wife in the office who evaluated my call and realized someone really was in need of help. The same day, within just a few hours of the call, peak season, Patrick stopped by, evaluated and gave me a quote for the repair. He ended up doing much more, and RIGHT AWAY when promised, which again, was peak season, and after a bunch of work. He came fully refreshed, important to me that he did the work safely by installing the stops, on the roof to prevent falls, and after removed, and had good equipment, so I did not have to worry he was going to get killed here, because it is pretty high up. He did even more than originally planned, completely removed the old stack and patched, making a professional framing while doing the patch, then taking off, so that it looked good, not sloppy. And it does look a lot better, and he told me I don't need to remove the roofing panels, it looked pretty good underneath the patch, looked for other leaks up higher, too. And although he probably does not ever do this other kind of handy work, because I asked him if he would please, he tacked down a couple of metal shed shingles curled up and would cause leakage and problems, because the ladder was right there. He knew I have been in pretty rough shape. <br /> <br /> I know we are all are just trying to survive, but some do it more eloquently. Licensed, bonded, insured, eco-friendly, happy good talk about his family, not out to rip off old ladies...friends, this is as good as it gets!!! And I am sooo grateful. He never charged more than quoted, despite taking longer, he had to get more supplies, did extra too, and seemed refreshed and careful after working a number of jobs earlier. First rate fellow and service!!! <br />"

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Ester, AK

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
