We sat down and planned the work to be done and established the day to begin and how long it would take.  The price was negotiated to mutual satisfaction, and he came in about the middle of estimates provided by four companies.  He assured us that the moving of heavy equipment and large rocks across our back yard could be done with little damage, and that which occurred could be easily repaired.

Update: A few months after the fence was installed, a few of the wooden caps that cover the fence posts began to split, assumedly because of water.  I called them, they sent someone out, and replaced the broken parts free of charge under the warranty."

"Inconsistent service.  At least twice had to contact them as no one had showed up in 24 hrs.  They did respond fairly quickly by email, but one time (Christmas) it took two or three emails before someone came, they kept promising someone would show up shortly. I can understand holidays are hard to staff and people get sick, but I would prefer a system where they are verifying work is being done, they have back up workers and people are working, rather than excuses.  I have had worse luck with some of their competitors so they seem to be the best that I have found so far, but there is certainly room for improvement.  Unsure how the 1" is calculated since several storms were more than 1" in my neighborhood but shoveling was not done.
