"The repointing work was generally done well. Old mortar and bricks were removed and new bricks were installed. The craftsmanship was excellent. However, the color of the mortar used differed from that in the rest of the brickwork, so at present it stands out. Sixpenny said to wait a period and then re-evaluate whether any change should be made. I would rate this as an "A" but for the color difference in the mortar that was not expected. The chimney cap work was done well."

"Wow! Amazing service. I must've called 8 different places in a panic trying to get the brick mounts which hold the mantel removed from my old fireplace so the surface could be prepped for a new TV. Seemed like an easy task (I thought), but it was a little more meticulous than I thought. I called this team and they arrived same day! Incredible customer service and expertise. Not only did they return the day after providing an estimate and remove the brick mounts, they actually re-fabricated the brick to make the holes disappear! This team knows their stuff!! I secured several estimates for the work (plus some parging work I elected not to do) and they were either middle or low on both. Austin did the estimate, made some excellent recommendations for a solution, and came back to do the final installation. He brought a helper but did most of the work himself, finishing and cleaning up in under 90 minutes. "I called Fairfax Chimney & Fence on Friday because we noticed the cap on our chimney had blown over.  Left a message for John who returned my call and said he'd be out Monday to take a look at it.  John arrived on time and found that he needed some more man power for the job but in the meantime I had him look at our two fireplaces and give me an estimate for cleaning and repair (the mortar on one of the fireplaces had crumbled).  The estimate was reasonable so we scheduled the work to be done.  John and his crew again showed up on time and did an excellent job on everything.  They were courteous, professional and left no trace of the work they had done.  John is friendly, meticulous, respectful and obviously knows his business and is good at it.  I would hire them again and recommend them highly. <br />"

"Edgar and Jonathan showed up at the appointed time and did a wonderful job on our 35-yr old brick chimney. The crown had completely deteriorated, a brick had fallen out, and several joints needed repointing. Also the chimney was badly stained with black soot. Suffice it to say it now looks brand new. "I had a different company come out previously to do a sweep and inspection. I have a fireplace with a wood stove insert. The first company told me that they could not pull my wood stove out because it was improperly installed and gave me a long list of items that I needed to get fixed (some of which seemed redundant) and that I shouldn't use my chimney until all the work was complete. I didn't get a good feeling from them so I called Complete Chimney to come out and do a second inspection to see what they thought. Scott and Jimmy (I think) came out and one of the first things they did was pull out my wood stove. They inspected my chimney and talked to me realistically about what I should have done. I have an old wood stove that I am not quite ready to replace, and asked if they could fit a new liner to my existing stove. He told me the new wood stoves require a 6 inch liner, where mine was an 8 inch, but told me they could install a boot to adapt to the old wood stove until we are ready for a new one. He was professional and didn't speak down to me. Since the weather was getting cold, I was worried about not getting put on their schedule in time. Scott called the office for me on the spot, and made my appointment for me. Andrew came out to do the work with a helper. They were on time, professional and courteous. I was impressed that Andrew knew the exact work that needed to be done, he even cleaned the shelf behind the stove that the previous company did not do because they never pulled my stove out. Even though they were there for several hours, there was not a speck of soot anywhere, except the workers! Will definitely use them again! <br />"

"Carlos did an amazing job in fixing our three exhaust pipes going through the roof. They were leaking water around them and now the leaks are gone. Carlos put new upgraded storm caps on them that will keep blowing rain out of them and he put tar over the flashings to seal them. Very professional and he was extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend for any exhaust flue or chimney work!!"

"Prouty did a great job on the chimney liners and ultimately the chimney cap repair. I rated them a C on responsiveness and professionalism specifically for an issue related to finishing the chimney cap in April when the weather conditions allowed for the repair. We financed the project over a six month period. I had requested that they provide pictures of the finished work including the chimney cap. Other companies we have used in the past provide before and after pictures. However, we were told that because they had already completed the chimney cap repair, they would not return to take pictures. It wasn't until we withheld the final payment that they agreed to return and provide pictures; only to find out that the work had not been completed. They were apologetic about the error in the paperwork, but I can't help thinking if we had not withheld the final payment, we would have been unaware that the repair had not been completed. I believe I would hire them again, but would have to make sure to verify the completed work."

"I have revised my initial review after a long discussion with the owner of Rooftop.  He took considerable time to explain the situation and offered some suggestions to alleviate the problem.  He also explained the restrictions, requirements and costs of performing outside work in Old Town Alexandria.  On top of that, he refunded 50% of the Service Call Charge; although I told him it was not necessary.    Should I require services again, I would use Rooftop Chimney Sweeps in the future."

"I initially contacted Richard earlier in 2011, and he came to my house quickly and provided an estimate. My BF met with Richard and two other contractors, and he was most impressed by Richard. The three quotes I received all identified vary different scopes of work, which made it difficult for me to figure out what I needed to do. At the same time, I was having a lot of internal work done on my house (a 1970 brick townhouse), so I postponed the brick work to finish the interior work. I again contacted Richard later in 2011, and he came out to re-inspect the chimney, and I indicated to him the additional masonry work I needed on the front of the house due to water intrusion. We agreed on the scope of work and price and he started the work as soon as he finished his existing job(s) and the weather allowed. Despite my brick having been long out of production, he was able to find bricks that are almost identical to my brick. He showed up as promised. Once he started the work, he was at my house every day until it was completed. He had to set up scaffolding and there was no damage resulting from setting it up and taking it down. We are very pleased with the quality of his work and his price. We highly recommend Richard."
