"The work was done in a professional manner. They were friendly and willing to answer questions about the work. The company handled all permits and scheduling the county inspector to come and clear the job. It completely cleared up the leaking problem in the basement, and the foundation is good for the rest of the house's live. They cleaned up really well, there was no dust problem, and in the area they dug a trench, they even reseeded the lawn with grass seed. We were very happy with the work and feel like we are safe from any more foundation problems."

"Classic Construction did outstanding work on our home. They resided our entire home with Hardie Plank siding, to include all the trim, fascia boards, gutters, shutters and re-wrapped our windows. We also had them redo our screened in porch. It transformed our house and it looks brand new. The skill and craftsmanship of their team was outstanding and they were very reasonable on their costs. Jordan Skinner was great to work with on the project and he is very knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations to improve the appearance of our home."

"As I said above, we  talked yesterday, and I have a better understanding of the work that was done. Since I have always had brick houses, the painting of the little bit of hardi plank on this house was new for us. It was very faded, and we knew we had the need for good caulking in corners, and around windows. They did an excellent job on this, and the new paint really looks good, since it was so faded. Since the extra elevation charge of $1000 was unexpected at the time of the coupon purchase, we agreed to split the difference. They did a good job, and I would recommend them. I think they did a good job. AND, this company  came back, and showed their willingness to work with us to make sure we felt that the price was fair. As far as the house being like new, and painted just 7 years ago, Hardi plank says you can go up to 10 years before painting. But the back of this house, which has the most Hardi plank is exposed to the most sun, and driving rain with it's southern exposure. BY the way, this was exterior paint!"

"Everything was storybook! We went in and looked at carpets, selected a few and took samples home to check for color. The young man came on the appointed day to measure and took the samples back. The installation people called 2 days later to set up a date (2 weeks later) We were called on the Saturday before the date we expected them to verify delivery date. On Monday 2 men came at the time we stated and moved the large pieces of our bedroom, including taking the bed apart. Then they removed the old pad and carpeting from the bedroom, closets, stairs and hallway. They installed the new pads and carpeting. These men were efficient, pleasant and cleaned up everything after they moved all the furniture back. They did not take breaks and worked until they were finished. The best compliment I can give is that I will have them back to do the other bedrooms."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Fort Lee, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
