"If you’re considering 58 Foundations, do yourself a favor and stop right now. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this company to anyone. Their complete disregard for accountability is infuriating. At first, things appeared to go smoothly, but the illusion of competence quickly disintegrated when it came time for the building inspection. The city inspector requires a letter from the project engineer verifying that the work is safe, sound, and compliant with code. 58 Foundations flat-out refuses to provide this basic validation of their work. Why won’t they stand behind their project? Are they hiding shoddy, substandard work? As a homeowner, I’m now saddled with the mess of an open permit and no resolution in sight. This is unacceptable. If a company won’t back their work with a simple letter, what does that say about their integrity—or lack thereof? Didn't expect this kind of run around from a well established professional firm, save yourself the headache."

"We couldn't be more disappointed in Gutter Guys-Milford! RIPOFF, UNPROFESSIONAL, MESSY, LYING, and JUST SHOWS UP RANDOMLY. We decided to do our back gutters, but we'll take our business elsewhere! The gutters they did for us are already faulty and are allowing water to run behind them, damaging our soffit. The workers left nails and brackets laying all over our yard. Thankfully we were able to clean up after them before my dog stepped on a nail. But, it gets worse... They started off kind and the estimator even offered a suggestion to run downspouts along the side of the house so we didn't have to do as much digging for underground flexible pipe. It was my fault for not having him specify that on the quote; I mistook kindness for trustworthiness. So, when the guys show up to do the work (with only one day's notice), they only ran the downspouts straight down. I had to call to complain and they said the estimator would call me back to discuss (well, he didn't). Then a few days later, workers show up at our house UNANNOUNCED to fix the downspouts. They didn't mention anything about an extra cost or have me sign anything. Two days later, the estimator shows up at my door UNANNOUNCED claiming that he never said anything about the downspout along the side of the house (BLATANT LIE TO MY FACE) and that it is an additional cost. He mentioned that they should've had me sign a change request for the extra cost when they were here... well, they didn't. and they never mentioned charging me extra! Only use Gutter Guys if you want faulty gutters from liars & scammers. What a scam of $1000. "Satisfaction guaranteed...""

"LP came to service my water system on 4/4/2023. The service tech indicated I had a possible issue with my sump pump as he poured water and sediment from changing my cartridge/filter into the sump pump. He asked if I wanted an LP plumber to come out and to see what the issue was. I agreed. Plumbers came. 20-minutes later they left my home and I received an electronic invoice for $550.00. They never told me what was wrong. They did not provide an estimate to replace. They did not request a signature to accept the estimate and okay to perform the work. They did not request a signature for me accepting the work that was supposedly performed. When I opened the electronic invoice, my name had been forged in 2 areas. The invoice did not list what brand/manufacturer of sump pump was installed. The invoice did not have a price for the labor. There was a $100 deduction but no reason provided. When I called LP, a was switched over to a representative. She stated they could not provide the sump pump information I requested. No reason as to why. But wanted to know if I wanted to pay my bill. I did pay, but thought more about it and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. My request was simple: provide a new invoice with the manufacturer of the sump pump. It would be a good thing to have in the event the supposed NEW sump pump failed. Odd that another well known contractor who replaced this years ago, gave me their invoice with the name and manufacturer and brand name/model of the sump pump that was determined defective by LP. I still have that receipt but odd that LP, supposedly a professional company, literally refused to provide the information that I requested. LP did reach out but I did not take the call on my cell and was out the next day when they called a landline. Their rep replied was everything looked reasonable but they, LP, NEVER, and STILL HAS NOT provided the information I requested. The name of the new sump, model number, etc. that I would need should the unit fail after LP had performed the work. If the unit failed, how would I ever be able to call the maker, e.g., Kohler, and see if they would honor a warranty if it did fail. How hard would it have been for LP to honor this request? Because I, a senior citizen did not contact LP by phone, the BBB closed the complaint. Instead of requesting that LP provide the required information, they closed the complaint. Makes one feel like they were totally scammed and the reason they didn't know or want to provide the information is that didn't actually perform the work. Another senior - SCAMMED."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Georgetown, DE

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
