"Steve Norfolk and his crew dug down to the footing and applied the waterproof material a section at a time.  The original plan was to dig the entire area first and then apply the waterproof material all at the same time.  However daily torrential rains turned the area into a sea of mud, so he decided to do it a section at a time to minimize problems associated with the rain.  He had to break up a concrete slab (porch) for 1/2 the front, and approximately 25 feet of driveway next to the house.  Progress was slow due to the rain and mud, but Steve steadfastly pursued the completion of the job despite the setbacks.  Although justifiably discouraged by the rain and lack of progress, he exhibited a positive "can do" attitude and kept at it.  The finished product was professionally done.  Backfill and all concrete were properly completed, and grass seed applied.  Steve is a conscientious professional who knows his business and can be relied upon to do the work he says he will accomplish.  I would use him again in a heartbeat.

"I have about 2 acres of wooded yard and fell hopelessly behind dealing with the leaves. So I contacted the folks at ACE for some help. The staff and service was great from start to finish.
They we friendly when I called to  set up the appointment and worked with me to accommodate my work schedule. And, they continued to to make sure I was in the loop when the two gentlemen came to do the work. Not only did they contacted me to tell me they were going to be a bit delayed - it turned out to be about an half-hour - because of some engine troubles, they also spent time with me when the arrived to find out what my expectations were and where I wanted them to focus their efforts. Afterwards, they gave me regular progress updates. Since they were hired at an hourly rate, they wanted to make sure that they completed the work  I needed done and that there were no unexpected surprises regarding the cost. Both of which, I very much appreciated.
Moreover, although the cost was a bit higher than I hoped, that was because I underestimated the scale of the job. In retrospect, the cost was very fair given  the herculean effort of the two gentlemen - unfortunately I can't recall their names - to clear up all of the leaves. They worked nonstop, methodically, and effectively, and were able to clean up the entire property. When they were done there wasn't so much as a leaf or branch left behind anywhere. I was amazed!
I can't say enough good things about the folks at ACE. I would hire them again in an instant and would recommend them to anyone who needs work done around the yard.

"If you need to replace your underground oil tank, then you're freaking out about the expense and possible catastrophic complications.   So do yourself a favor and call Willard.    This wonderful family company makes everything easy.

Our very positive experience started with the initial visit by Josh.    Then company owner Billy Willard answered all our many questions.   Considering the options, we decided to purchase a Roth tank.    Not just more compact than other brands, it also has a 30-year warranty.   Willard is the only company in Virginia certified to install Roths.

Our work was scheduled quickly.    Willard called Miss Utility and also our county -- we didn't have to do a thing.   The Roth tank fit neatly into our garage and Billy and his crew took great care with every detail of its complicated installation.    The removal of our underground tank went really well too, even though the tank turned out to be quite deep.    Frank and Josh worked very carefully to expose but not damage the old tank, and to transfer oil into the new tank.    Then the old tank was prepared so the residual oil could be pumped for recycling.    We hadn't even realized this step would take place, because Willard had made all the arrangements.   Next the tank was lifted and soil samples were taken.      Then, using a truckload of fill Willard supplied as well as the excavated soil, the enormous hole was filled, carefully graded and sown with grass seed.

You can imagine how many heavy vehicles were in motion to accomplish all this, yet there was not the slightest damage to our fence, landscaping, driveway or house.

Meanwhile, Tim was connecting the new Roth tank to our furnace, working with ingenuity around the maze of ducting. pipes and wires in our basement.   He wasn't satisfied until he was sure the connection was perfect.

We thought the entire crew was awesome, and that opinion was validated when the county fire inspector approved everything they'd done.   The Willards and Josh Delaney were not just expert, they were really friendly and considerate.    It was a pleasure to have them around,  They turned what had been a huge nightmare into a perfectly executed solution.

"Andrew and his crew have always done an outstanding job for us.  He looks at every project with an eye towards drainage and keeping water away from the house--which was important in our case.  Andrew also goes above and beyond and recommends options that are cost saving.  Most recently, Andrew created a landscaping project for us in a very wet spot of our townhouse patio.  We had a general idea of how we wanted it to look, and Andrew provided an exceptional option for cost savings in placing a circular stone slab down.  The quality of work is consistently outstanding.  We would recommend them for any project you have."

"They responded quickly and fixed the pipe. The work was fine but a little expensive. My only reservation was price, but it has been a while, so I don't feel I can answer other questions about the company with a lot of confidence."

"John and Melissa were a pleasure to work with!  The work was completed on a rental property and there ended up being a lot more damage than expected.  They were very sensitive to the fact that the damage was in the kitchen and did everything they could to complete all the work in a timely fashion to limit the amount of inconvenience for my tenants. The work was also completed at a very reasonable and fair price.  They are definitely willing to work with you!  They fixed a portion of my roof at no charge and also came back a few weeks after all the work was complete to do some painting when I was unable to find anyone else because the job was so small.  I would definitely use them again in the future and would highly recommend them.  They made the entire process very easy for me!

"Val was prompt and came to my house to provide an estimate. He came again to review the site of the work prior to it being done and he was quite polite. The original cost estimate was $3450.00 and when I asked about discounts for Angie's customers, he indicated that he was giving me the best price. I had gotten estimates with other contractors and his was the most expensive. The others were not that much cheaper, but, because he was prompt, professional, responsive, and the reviews were good, I went with him. Unfortunately, the quality of the work was sloppy at best. He said it would take them 2 days to finish the job and it did. I was out of town while they were working and when I returned, my yard was a mess. I was told that the concrete truck would come up the driveway, but whatever equipment was used, was also driven through my front yard. I had asked Val what I needed to do to help prepare for the work, and other than moving the outdoor lights, he said nothing. To my dismay, my azaleas, my hostas, and my herb garden were damaged during the process. If I had known that these plants would have been a problem, I would have removed them myself and covered my herb garden. The workers did re-seed the yard and put hay over the damaged areas, but they did not fill in the dirt where the vehicle was driven across my yard and they put the seeds on top of the soil where the concrete dust was. Of course, concrete damages the soil and there is no way that the grass was going to grow well in the damaged areas. When I complained to Val about this, he did send the workers back out to redo the front yard. They came back within 2 days. So, I did appreciate his responsiveness. But the bigger problem is that my stairs are not even. The base and stairs are slanted to the right, the stairs are not evenly spaced, and the craftsmanship is very poor. None of the edges or corners are straight. Its just sloppy. I just don't understand. When I brought this to Val's attention he indicated that the concrete was drying fast and that they did the best that they could. Well, anyone who is a professional at mixing and pouring concrete should know how to do this and make sure that the stairs are even. You should also know which type of concrete to use for the job and that concrete that dries too fast for such a large pour is probably not the best option. Either way, they are the experts and should know. I asked that he take some money off, so we agreed that the price should be reduced by $500.00. I could have asked that they start over, but I dont have the confidence that they would do it right the second time. I am going to have to get someone to come lay flagstone or some other stone to even out the stairs and level them. Even from the street, you can see how uneven everything is. I am quite disappointed and will never work with this contractor again. Perhaps they are good at patios, but they are not good at pouring concrete."

"We really appreciated Suncrest and we will definitely work with them again.  They were honest, fair, competent, professional, quality-minded, and friendly.  They were invested in the success of the project, not just doing what we asked, but really thinking about it, and helping us make hard decisions along the way.  Throughout the project, I felt like this was a partnership in which we and the builders were a team, all working toward a shared goal, which was an excellent quality job at a very reasonable price.  I am delighted to say that this was achieved.

On a big project, you end up making a lot of decisions halfway through, because that is when you can most easily figure out what you want.  In these instances, Suncrest was always very adaptable, accepting our new requests graciously, and re-planning their schedule frequently to make it happen.  I always felt that our change requests were priced fairly.  That was a big deal to us.  When you're in the middle of a big project, you feel really "stuck" in terms of negotiating power.  Costs were always clearly explained, and the pricing structure was always applied consistently, so as a result, I never felt railroaded into paying too much for anything.  When a big work package had to be done outside Suncrest by a specialist company, John (the owner) would sometimes recommend that we work directly with the subcontractor--either his suggested one, or an alternative if we preferred--rather than subcontracting it himself and taking a cut of the proceeds.  That saved us money, and gave us more control.  When there was a problem or miscommunication, which happens in any project, occasionally John would just take care of the problem at his own expense.  Other times he would negotiate very respectfully, to a mutually satisfactory outcome.  I never felt anyone was taking advantage of us.  In sum, I felt that Suncrest was very fair, and really appreciated that.

Another positive that really stood out was the professionalism of the workers.  Most of Suncrest's people had many years of experience.  Some even had college or associates' degrees.  Generally each specialized in a discipline (framing, plumbing, carpentry, painting) and was very good at it, and quick.  All were friendly, professional, respectful, and results-oriented.  They were also pretty clean and tidy.  Construction always makes a mess, but the workers kept this to a minimum.

I'm an engineer, and when choosing a vendor to build anything, we have a saying--"good, fast, cheap: pick two!"  You will never find a company that reliably gives you fast, cheap, high-quality results, so think carefully about which area you want to compromise.  For us, quality and cost were the 1st and 2nd priority.  Time was 3rd.  In our project, the work did not always proceed as fast as we would have liked.  Sometimes this was because Suncrest is not a huge company, and they had to juggle a limited staff among a lot of jobs.  Sometimes it was due to factors outside anyone's control, like permit delays from the County, or the difficulty of building on our lot, a steep hillside, which really complicated much of the work.  Finally, sometimes the delays were our own fault.  Suncrest often had to wait for us to buy materials for them to install, or to authorize them to proceed when our finances were tight, or (most frequently by far) to make decisions or draw sketches of exactly what we wanted them to build.

For anyone considering working with Suncrest on a big or small project, I would offer the following advice:

1) If quality, fair pricing, customization, and a good, honest working relationship are the most important things to you, go for it!  In those respects especially, I really do not think you could find a better builder than Suncrest.

2) Construction and remodeling involve a huge number of details that have to be communicated and coordinated between you and the builder.Suncrest is pretty organized, but still, things can easily slip through the cracks.  Once your project is underway, you will have many informal conversations about the work with either John or a project manager (Bryan in our case)...but usually not both.  If they are not taking notes at the time, or even if they are, you may later find that they have forgotten about some of the things you discussed, or, have not communicated certain tasks to the workers.  You may also forget to follow through on commitments you made, like buying hardware or making key decisions, which might be dependencies for them to continue work.

Here is a method for solving those problems:

* Summarize your discussion in a concise email.

* Send this email to both John and the project manager.

* Print out a copy and leave it on the counter for the work crew to see.

I started doing this more often toward the end of the project, I think that when I did, it really helped us all stay on the same page.

In sum, I would absolutely, without hesitation, heartily recommend Suncrest Builders.

"

I contacted them and set a date for them to come over and review the jobs required.  He arrived on time, prepared to take measurements etc. and then told me what I would need to provide them and what the final costs should be since it was over the hours purchased from Angies.  We set a date and time for them to do the work.

they arrived on time and went right to work.

ISince I am a DYIer i knew what it would take to do the job and what they needed to do so that it was done correctly.

All of the work they did met or exceeded my expectations.  The plasterwork, which I do not do well, was done extremely well and you could tell that he takes pride in his work.

We were very pleased with the work and would rehire.

"I'd previously asked Backyard Ponds to clean and net my ponds the last week in September. I called the Friday before to find out when they could come, and they agreed to send their workers on Monday. They team arrived on time. They were pleasant and professional I walked them through what I wanted them to do. It was a complicated job; there were three ponds, and each pond required different care. The team went to work right away. They spent most of the day on the effort, breaking only for lunch. When they were done, I inspected the ponds. The only thing I had to ask them to do was put a net over the waterfall on one of the ponds. The fish they handled were in good condition after the cleaning. The workers left no debris on the job site. The company sent the bill in a timely manner, listing labor and materials so I would understand the charges. I would happily use them again!"
