"These folks have their act together. Everthing went smoothly and according to plan. Big advantage over competitors -- they actualy sand the cabinets well before refinishing! All workers were professional and courteous. Clean up after work was exceptional. Working with the manager and estimator went very well. We are very pleased with the result and the price. Our kitchen looks fabulous!"

"Meeting Susan was a completely enjoyable experience.   Her personality and knowledge were true to her web site - she obviously loves doing what she does.  She was very accommodating with the meeting schedule and took her time explaining to me the work that would be done to repair and refinish my furniture.

I have just recently retired and we are in transition with our new income, and our furniture is in storage, so we decided not to have the furniture repaired at this time. But I wanted to write this review to share the positive experience I had with Furniture Magicians.   Also, my husband will probably refinish the drop leaf table and Susan provided lots of helpful hints for a DIY job.

I am still contacting her with pictures and requests for quotes on other furniture that I want to have repaired and Furniture Magicians will definitely be my go-to company.

"I found Williamsburg Maintenance on Angie's List and called to discuss the work that I needed to be done. Phil Nader was very responsive to my phone calls and we were able to agree on a proposal and estimate. Mr. Nader maintained regular contact with me as we dealt with winter weather conditions to set a date for the work to be done. The crew arrived on time and completed the job in one morning. I am very satisfied with the work done by Phil Nader and his crew, particularly in the areas of competence, friendliness, communication, and price."

"Ace had the dresser for approximately 3 weeks. Ace called on the 23 of February and said they were finished and would drop it of on the 24. They promptly arrive on the the 24 and brought the dresser into the house. When my wife and I saw the dresser we were so pleased the dresser looked like new. the owner pointed out the front of the draws and show us that the original veneer grain on the front of the draws were align perfectly something you could not see prior to the work. he had repaired the side and replaced the rear panel. you could not see any of the cracks in the veneer. he also said that the dresser this old typically had wheels on them so he installed wheels on the the unit which was great in our house as we have wood floors. he said the side of the unit had been damaged because the dresser was not meant to be puled across floors with out the wheels. my wife had thought that the dresser was a write off and would not be able to save it. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work that was done. we had Ace take the matching dresser with them to do the same thing to it. this second dresser was not as bad as the first dresser. I looked forward to seeing the second dresser when it gets back.

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Hampton, VA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
