"Project: Repair or Service a Central Air Conditioning System Sam from Liberty is GREAT! I had my AC recharged earlier this year and they charged me $170 per pound for freon!! This is the dirty little secret..You (and they) can buy it for $29 a pound on the internet....so I lost the first round with SmartHouse??? overpaid for 2 pounds plus service call plus labor.....A month later. I accidetnally cut a hole in my line in the garage.lost 5 pounbds of freon.I called all the AC companies I could find and asked them how much per pound the cheapest was $85!! some for $150!! Oh they all lie to you "the price is going up" R22 freon will be outlawed in 2020 our costs have gone up" BS! they all want to stick you for maybe an extra $600 wihtout you knowing it if you need 5 pounds. They are all con artists and liars . I checked with about 5 companies and got the cheapeast bid of $1000 ish and most around $1300! I told them I knew about the mark up on freon and they all did their little tap dance. I finally found Sam on Craigslit under services rendered...Called him he said he would give me a fixed price he knew all about the markup scam! He got the job done for $525!! Sam is a hard worker and didint show up til 7pm and had one more call that night after me! He welded my pipe vac'd the system and charged it up as good as new! While most of these AC company rackets try to get rich off of each job. Sam has a different philosophy he gives a fair deall and justs works harder than everyone else and makes it up on volume. Also he is a one man company so he has very littel overhead...One slight complaint..he hinted that he would be over by 4:15 PM but didn't make it til 7pm as he has other jobs he said were"ahead of me" I suspecet he got a job that he would lose if he didnt take it right away and could tell I would wait....Just a guess....Anyway it was worth the wait ...they say you can get Good Fast OR Cheap Pick 2. Oh and here is a warning ..If you ask for after hours service from any of the established crooked companies get ready to pay $249 a pound for freon!!!! Less"

"He serviced our HVAC system. House was dormant for about 9 months and for sale. We noticed the system didn?t smell good and wasn?t cooling the house right. So we called him to service our house. He found our duct work to be compromised and pulled out some dead animals. He fixed the ducts and put this shiney metal tape on all the seams. Checked the AC outside for refrigerant gas and operation. Then he checked our furnace inside. The filter was black and musty, he didn?t have our size on his truck but he ordered a couple from Walmart and had them delivered while he worked on our furnace blower. He found the round fan was all clogged with hair and dirt. He pulled it out and cleaned it outside, used some chemicals that made it shiny and cleaned. Checked the fan blades with a tool to make sure it was blowing a strong stream of air. Took a shop vac cleaned each of our floor vents and put about 10 or 15 foot of hose going in each direction. For a man by himself he was very"

"Shane was really great! He walked me through potential causes for the dishwasher to not work properly; parts needed to repair, and time and cost. He picked up the parts from a distributor and installed them. The total service time was around 2.5 hours. My wife and I are ecstatic the DW is fixed, because we did not want to buy a new one. I will definitely use HB again; and in fact, I have purchased a Home Protection Plan with them."

FAQs for central a/c service or repair projects in High Ridge, MO

Coils work to absorb heat into the refrigerant that flows through them, moving heat from one location to another. For air conditioning, the evaporator coil inside the air handler in your home absorbs heat. It then transfers the heat outside to the condenser coil, where it releases it. The opposite process happens for heat pumps. When the coils get dusty and dirty, it reduces how well these components work.

Skip regular cleanings, and dirt, debris, and mineral deposits will blanket your evaporator and condenser coils. When that happens, the coils can’t shed heat efficiently, so the system works harder and your energy bill climbs. Over time, overheating strains the compressor and can trigger a full breakdown—an avoidable repair that often costs far more than a simple annual cleaning.

AC coil cleaning is an investment that pays for itself in the benefits it provides. Dust‑caked coils force your AC to run longer, so you spend more on electricity and rack up extra wear. A quick professional cleaning restores efficiency, trims monthly bills, and eases strain on expensive parts. Over the long haul, that small yearly fee delays pricy repairs and stretches the unit’s lifespan, making coil cleaning one of the smartest HVAC tune‑ups you can schedule.

Watch for higher electric bills, rooms that stay warm no matter how low you set the thermostat, or an AC system that runs nonstop. Extra humidity and frost on the coils are also red flags. Catching these clues early lets you schedule a quick cleaning before the system overworks itself and triggers an expensive breakdown.

Your AC cleaning technician starts by shutting off the power to the unit and removing the faceplate. Compressed air and a vacuum hose blast away loose debris, followed by a coil-safe, no-rinse cleaner that dissolves stubborn grime. After the solution has soaked in, the professional wipes the fins, reassembles the housing, and restores power, leaving the system ready to cool at peak efficiency.
