"Dave did a fantastic job. Not only did he repair the blind I called about but repaired another blind that had a knot in the cord which affected its function and a blind that was loose. From the bracket that I didn’t realize was loose. He was fast and courteous. I would highly recommend him."

"Harold Blazeks did a wonderful job in repairing our shades. Their price was fair and he completed the repairs in 1 hour. Marilyn called in the morning and gave us a time of 2:30PM and he arrived at 2:31PM. We would recommend the Blazers for Hunter Douglas repairs anytime. Thank you Don & Noel Thomson St. Charles Il."

"I have never worked with other decorators, but Nick brings the shopping to me.  He has samples to show me or he sends links to pictures.    This has made the process so easy.
I really enjoy working with Nick.  He is offers great ideas but is flexible when my budget or personal taste requires.  He has great
furniture contacts for reasonably priced, well built materials.  I got a great modular couch that can be reconfigured to meet the needs of the group in the room.  It was Nick's idea that it be modular because it served many functions but  it was also good for getting the pieces into the space.
Nick is also willing to disagree.   I am paying him for his opinion, so that's what I want.
In my experience with Nick decorating is not delivered in a one moment package.   One piece comes,  a little later some other pieces come. Then there is the final arranging and accessorizing and we are done.  It is a bit like completing a puzzle - typically not done in one sitting.
Nick is also respectful of budget.  It is very easy in decorating to get carried away or make changes that impact the budget.  Nick has always offered me options to stay on budget, and when we veer off it has been my decision.

"From estimate to completed work I can say they receive a super A+. The estimator Denis was especially nice, professional, making a though inspection of ALL windows (we have over 100) and marking what work needed to be done or what windows were ok. He marked them for the workers and immediately put it in his iPad so before he left I had a complete scope of the work and the total cost. I agreed to do the work and was scheduled within a week from estimate. The told me I had to buy the paint(my guess was so the paint matched the existing paint) but they had all the other supplies. The two workers, Nate and Stephan, were polite, EXCELLENT workmanship. They removed their shoes, went about their work (I did check to see what was being done occasionally and I can only say they are absolutely professional and their work superior) and when completed they went over all that was done, checked all the other windows in case the estimator missed one (possible with over 100 windows but Denis was right on) they cleaned up after themselves ..to my cleaning standards (very impressive) and presented a statement and received their check. I would highly recommend and use them again. I will also add we had two other window companies come out and tell us they had to replace the rotted windows and no one could repair them....Thank you Apex Window Werks."

"The owner, Kevin McCann, agreed to help me out. When the original cladding was removed, the wood was in perfect condition. No discoloration or mold. This is a true testament to the skill of the crew who originally installed the windows and cladding. The installer showed up on time and re-clad the windows. The only glitch is that he was given the wrong color aluminum which delayed the project until we could locate a similar color. Good job as always."

"First off, everyone we've dealt with has been professional, friendly, and courteous. We liked the reviews we saw in Angie's List and Murphy's installed a new sliding door for us in Nov 2014. One of our requests was it be "lightweight" and easy to slide. Well, it didn't seem that way when it was installed, but we were told to give it some time to loosen up. Nope. Still heavy and hard to open and close... 3+ years later. Next problem was the screen door with it. In Spring 2015 (when we needed it, since the door was installed in the winter), the screen door continuously came off its track. Don came out to fix it ("right") and it almost lasted until the end of the season. I spoke with Jimmy Murphy who runs the place... again, super nice and super friendly... but when I reached him to help... lots of delays, promises, etc. I kept putting it back on the track myself for short-term fixes. I called/texted in the Fall 2017 to have it fixed or replaced... no response. Called/Texted again in Spring 2018 and was told someone would be out to take care of it. No one. Another call and text promising to be there "next Tuesday." Nothin. I've had enough. Well meaning group, but lacks follow-through and, apparently, the ability to keep customers happy/satisfied. Hard to imagine that 20 minutes of their time and/or possibly $10-50 in parts will cost them my future business and possibly the loss of others' business (after reading this). Won't use again...."

FAQs for blinds or shades repair projects in Highland Park, IL

If you're wondering whether repairing your blinds is worth it, consider the quality and age of your blinds. For high-end or custom blinds, repairing them can preserve their quality, functionality, and design, making repair a smart choice. Immediate repairs maintain the original look and performance. However, if your blinds are over six years old, extensively damaged, or of lower quality, replacing them might be more cost-effective, as new blinds offer better efficiency and modern technology. Weigh the repair costs against the benefits of replacement to make the best decision for your situation.

When damage undermines the integrity and appearance of your blinds, replacement becomes the clear option. You should replace your blinds when damage to slats or fabric prevents you from obtaining an exact match, thereby compromising appearance and function. Severe damage increases repair complexity and expense. Replacing blinds not only restores superior performance but also creates an opportunity for aesthetic upgrades and lasting benefits.

You should plan to replace your blinds at least every 10 years, with clear signs of wear, such as discoloration, deterioration, or functional issues, emerging by five years. Regular evaluation of style, quality, and performance supports an informed decision. While minor repairs may temporarily extend usability, a complete replacement secures optimal operation and updated design.

Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep your blinds looking and functioning their best. Clean them regularly with mild, specialized products and follow the manufacturer's recommended usage guidelines. UV-blocking window film can protect against fading and warping from sun exposure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance will preserve their appearance and performance, extending their overall lifespan.

If you pull the blind string and it does not move, it indicates a malfunction in the mechanism, such as a broken cord, a jammed cord lock, or a stuck component. Inspect the string for breaks and examine the headrail for any obstructions. Replace the defective cord or cord lock as necessary to restore proper operation and maintain functionality.

Yes, you can replace your blind string yourself by using a replacement kit available at home improvement stores. Accurate measurement of the string diameter is essential for a perfect fit. Gather the necessary tools and follow the manufacturer’s instructions rigorously to secure a safe, lasting fix. If the task demands more time than anticipated, hiring a professional is advisable to avoid further damage.
