"I awoke on a Saturday morning to find that I had no water from my well. I entered my name and problem on Home Advisor, and within fiveinutes Marquis Well and Pump called. They were able to send a technician early that afternoon. Mark determined that my pump had failed and that I needed a new pump and tank. He was able to make these repairs that afternoon, so by 4:30 pm my water was restored. I am immensely pleased with their service."

"Our water stopped running on a Sunday and we called late in the day. Chad (military veteran) and Liam came Monday morning. They found a severed/fried wire that they were able to repair within minutes. They were trustworthy, knowledgeable, informative, fast, friendly, and affordable. We feel lucky to have found them and will continue to hire them for any future well/pump services!"

"This was the second time that we hired the Main Choice Inspection team. Bill Heath and his team, Kevin and Brian, were excellent. They were punctual and made accommodations to be at both inspections, in spite of a northeaster storm. The inspection(s) included: a general home inspection, sewer line and septic/leach field. The first inspection, post storm, was done in frigid temperatures. That inspection took a few hours and they worked well with the home inspector( from another company). At the end of each inspection; they handed us a manual on home maintenance, gave useful advice and recommendations. They inspect from top to bottom--no cutting corners! As for customer service; they cover their shoes upon entering the home, they respond quickly(phone or email) and will do whatever they can to assist you. We highly recommend Main Choice Inspection, especially for the first time homeowner, they are licensed and certified."

"We recently purchased a recently renovated century old farmhouse. We were not expected to use the home warranty that came with out purchase, but so happy we had it within months of moving in we had failures of the appliances. Then we learned the title agency paid the wrong home warranty company. We made the title company pay the proper warranty company covered in our contract due to reviews --- best decision we made. They were help in sorting out the problems with the Title Company and they made sure we were happy with the repairs. When one repairman bailed on us, American Home Shield came to the rescue. Couple of months later a pump failed on the clothes washer and it was repaired in just a few days. $75 for each claim for the service call and the repair is covered. I am afraid they have paid more than the cost of my policy at this point. But that is what insurance is for. Definitely keeping them in the future. Highly recommend."

FAQs for well pump repair or service projects in Hiram, ME

A standard well inspection begins with a visual inspection of the pump, casing, storage tank, and wiring, followed by flow rate tests and laboratory-based water sampling. The goal is to confirm that every part meets safety standards and to identify any necessary repairs before they become expensive. An inspector will also test your water quality for substances such as volatile organic compounds and any local containment concerns.

Book a licensed, insured well specialist for your inspection. Many well‑pump contractors also hold inspection credentials. They’ll bring the right tools to assess the pump, wiring, and water quality, and provide you with a clear report on any necessary fixes. Before you hire, confirm their license, insurance, and recent customer reviews.

Plan on a full well inspection every year. You’ll also want one any time the cap comes off, after septic repairs, or if flooding occurs. Annual tests look for total and fecal coliform; every two years, the lab should screen for metals and nitrates, and every five years for VOCs and pesticides. If you’re buying a home with a private well, it’s essential to schedule a pre-purchase inspection.

With routine care, most wells supply clean water for up to 40 years. Lifespan depends on the type and how well you protect it. To help it reach the maximum lifespan, keep hazardous products far from the casing, ensure the cap stays sealed, schedule yearly inspections, and address problems as soon as they appear. Good habits keep the system healthy and the water safe.

The average cost of well repairs ranges from $100 to $2,800. Your final bill depends on which part—pump, pressure tank, casing, or piping—needs attention and the level of complexity involved in the repair. A thorough inspection identifies the problem, allowing you to budget accurately and avoid paying for unnecessary parts or services.
