"Wonderful. They did a great job with two severely damaged leaves. Love love the finished job. Saved me from having to refinish the complete dining table or getting a new one. I highly recommend this company"

"I first found Marcoux Upholstery on Angie's List and contacted them via their link sending them pictures of the chair I was planning to re-upholster. My chair was a bit wobbly and the footrest was hanging out a bit as the screws were loose; there were also some water spots on the wood frame. Wendy responded very promptly and answered all my questions and provided me with an estimate for the work. I went to their shop in Leominster a week later and brought my chair with me. I then selected fabrics with the help of Wendy. Their shop had tons of fabric samples and so finally from the 8 samples I selected, I had to narrow down to one. Wendy then checked with the supplier and they apparently had the fabric in stock. I was told that by the time the fabric arrives which could take a week, they will work on tightening all the screws of the chair and refinish/polish the wood before upholstering the chair. All in likely 2-3 weeks when they finish. The next day, Wendy contacted me to let me know that the fabric I selected was back-ordered; it seems that the supplier had made a mistake and thought they had the fabric in stock. So I went down to the shop again to select another fabric. Wendy had a pile of samples all ready for my selection since she knew the color I was looking for. Thanks to her that I found another fabric quickly and this time, this different supplier had stock. Wendy told me she will contact me when the chair is ready. Within the week, Wendy called back to let me know that my chair was ready for collection. That was so amazing that they finished the chair in a week. What was more amazing was that the chair looked really fantastic -- from the polished wood frame to the fabric and you could tell the workmanship is impeccable with attention to all the minute details of sewing and fitting; all screws were tightened and the footrest no longer dangled the way it did. The chair looked brand new and so retro cool. My thanks to Mike and his team for such an excellent job done within a week; Wendy for being so helpful and prompt with answers. They even made me a cushion and a head rest piece to go with the chair. I would highly recommend Marcoux Upholstery for the solid and impeccable work they do -- you can be assured your furniture will turn up looking better than it ever did -- just like brand new! <br />"

"I own a coffee table that was handmade on a farm over 100 years ago. Unfortunately, one of the legs broke and I didn't have the skills or equipment to repair. I found Wood Is Good on Angie's list and gave it a shot, as I knew this was a not a typical job. Rich said that he actually liked this kind of work and I was impressed with the innovative thinking he brought to the repair. I get the sense the Rich takes a lot of pride in adding personal touches to his work. I thought his pricing was quite reasonable. While I hope I don't ever have to bring the table back for another repair, I would give him business in the future."

"We went to their shop in Wilmington, looked at catalogs, brought a few home and then made a decision. Each person we came into contact with was extremely helpful. The workers came, removed the couches. When the couches were ready, we got a call, they were delivered and set up carefully. Also, the order was completed more quickly than we expected. There was one small hitch which they were very happy to fix immediately but we were happy with the delivered couches. [One of the couches was to have a different fabric design from the other, but once we saw the couches in our living room, we were glad that different fabrics were not used. We also got a check for the difference.] <br />"

"Rick did a wonderful job repairing and restoring a Boston rocker that belonged to my grandmother. It had a lot of damage due to the head piece and spindles flying out of the back of our truck and into the busy road behind. Needless to say, Rick manufactured a new head piece and restored the spindles and somehow made it look antique and in better shape than it was. Throughout the whole process he was very responsive and up front about the cost and how much he could do to it. In the end, I am very happy with the final product and would highly recommend Rick for any furniture restoration project. <br />"

"Earlier I had used the Antique Roadhouse to consign several thousand dollars <br /> of antique and vintage furniture from my late parents' home. <br /> And, then my aunt's home three years later. From Andrew's <br /> first visit thru to his very competent moving crew to the <br /> great prices my furniture sold for, The Antique Roadhouse was <br /> great. Andrew explained to me the most efficient <br /> way of clearing out each house. Other dealers I approached clearly <br /> wanted to and quot;cherry pickand quot; the house. He was kind and considerate, <br /> Indeed he was gentle when a couple of and quot;cherished family piecesand quot; <br /> were simply not likely to find a market. Even if a piece came from the <br /> Hawthorne House in family lore, the provenance is only that. When I need <br /> something nice for one of my homes the first and usually the <br /> only place I need check is the Antique Roadhouse. <br /> Of course, sometimes I have to visit more than once. That is fun, too. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Hubbardston, MA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
