"We hired Advanced to rip up our old driveway, and put in an expanded asphalt driveway. We also needed a new walkway as the old red bricks were uneven and posed a tripping hazard. James worked with me to ensure the shape of the expanded driveway was exactly what we wanted. The team worked very fast and James was on site throughout the project. Further working with us, they ensured the walkway end was flush with the driveway (avoiding another previous tripping hazard), and worked with me to lay pipe underneath the new walkway so I could extend our in-ground sprinklers and have the option to add electrical. The team put string through and planted flags in the ground marking the ends of the pipes. They even redid the pavers of our front stoop including cutting out and regrouting. Everything looked so great that we hired James 9 months later to come back and install two quarter-circle sitting walls at the ends of our driveway. They even relocated the plants for us. We're the new it house!"

"Overall experience, from visiting their site to select the granite, scheduling the template and countertop installation, and the installation itself was positive. Installers were very conscientious in their work"

"So after a long search for a good contractor I went with Bernard and his team. I wanted to expand a 1/2 bathroom that I had, expand my tiny half closet, and refinish my basement. Everything looked like it was from the 60s and it was very dark. The bathroom was extremely tiny where it just barely fit a toilet and vanity. Bernard was very knowledgable and easy to talk too. He was always ready to help answer any questions I had either through text messages or phone calls. We sketched out the plan of how I wanted the bathroom designed, and then he gave me a list of materials I needed to buy. His men were definitely professionals in their trade (plumbing, electrical, tiling, etc). I watched each day as things progressed and they really took pride in their work to make things look perfect. Lampert one of the main workers was there just about everyday and he too was able to explain why I needed certain things or how things worked. Each of the workers helped give me some other ideas as the project continued through. They were there everyday at 7 am except for Sundays and had all my work done in 2 weeks and a half. I was very pleased and would definitely hire Bernard and team again for future projects. I'm very happy with how everything came out. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for renovations."

"We had our front stoop and walkway done. Thanks to Henry and his suggestions, the job came out even better than expected. The work crew were very professional and skilled. The whole project took only three days to complete. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and would highly recommend LI Landscaping, Masonry & Constractor to anyone looking for a very professional job."

"NO STRESS!! Tom and his crew could not be nicer or more considerate. What a professional job. I was amazed how with the right equipment my old driveway was broken up, hauled away, and not like many other new driveway installations that I have observed in my neighborhood where the dirt base of the new driveway had to sit and settle for at least a week, the new driveway was tamped down with a special machine and the new asphalt put down all within 2 days and was finished already at 9AM on the 2nd day. Not only was the time element very impressive, but the workmanship was A+. All this with NO STRESS! Tom also helped me out with some "extras" that were not at all expected and was such a pleasant surprise. He did not expect payment until the job was completed and I was fully satisfied. He also was here all the time and worked in the install along with his wonderful crew. Efficient and meticulous. Could you ask for anything more? Could not be more highly recommended, that is for sure! Thank you so much Tom and his excellent crew!!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Huntington, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
