"The process was painless and easy. There were no high-pressure salespeople to deal with. We went online, told what we wanted, and ZEN sent us the quotes we needed. Alix and Matt were incredibly patient working with us. We had lots of questions and weren't exactly sure what we wanted. They worked through the process with us and helped throughout. Once everything was decided, the windows were ordered. Mind you, this was during the covid-19 shut-down but after 6 or so weeks, we got a call the windows were ready to be installed. Their ace installation team called (Dan and Brenda) everything was scheduled when we had a death in the family. We called and with great understanding, Matt and their team rescheduled the installation for a week later. Dan and Brenda were artists in their installation. They knew their installation process exactly - and what to do and when to do it. We are still amazed. They were a perfect team. We are so thankful for their calming presence as they worked and made jokes along the installation process (our family was on edge after the death of a close family member). They were promptly on time and there when they said they would be there. They cleaned up everything along the way. And they even cleaned the windows they installed. My 2 kids (8 & 4) loved having them around and we were all sad to see them go when they finished. I highly recommend Zen Windows to everyone looking for quality window replacements. As I said before, the process was easy and now we have quality windows that look beautiful throughout the home. Thank you Zen Windows!!!"

"I had called around 7 different contractors to get estimates for the work. Home Town Restyling quickly returned my call and set up an appointment to come do the estimate. I was extremely impressed with their quote process. It was very detailed and they give you the quote before they leave unlike the other contractors who took anywhere from a few days to over a week. Also the amount of information and detailed questions they ask during the quote process was complete night and day difference from all of the other contractors. They left no detail or question unasked. The quote process alone separated them from the others. Other contractors simply measured the doors and said they will send me the quote not asking me any questions as to what options or features I want. Probably intended to underbid and jack the price up later. Not with Home Town, I knew the exact price with everything detailed in the quote before he left. They even walked me through install process and what to expect. Also included in the quote was to cover replacing a portion of the subfloor which was likely going to be rotted (it was) due to the cheap French doors. Thanks Beau you did a great job on that. So we went with the extra wide Sunrise doors (Wisconsin style as Beau described it to us) for both upstairs and downstairs with the upstairs having the built in blinds. Before our estimate appointment I decided to stop in to their showroom to see the product in person. Beau showed me the doors and went into great detail about everything including the engineering design of the doors which I appreciated being an engineer myself. He also showed me the quality and energy efficiency of the glass with their heat lamp test which was impressive to see the difference in types of glass. So between the demo in their showroom and the quote process it made my decision very easy on which contractor was getting the job. Beau is a great salesman. Ok so after sealing the deal they ordered my doors which was around a 10-12 week wait as the vendor builds everything to order which I'm okay with. I feel that results in better quality products than something being mass produced overseas. After seeing other recommendations on here for Bill doing the installation I asked if Bill could install mine. Glad I did. Bill did a great job.. He was very attentive to every detail and made sure everything was done perfectly. For a guy who takes the time to French curl his mustache I kind of figured he would leave no detail imperfect on the install. It took a couple of days for the initial install and a few followup visits for some trim/finish pieces to be ordered. Thanks Bill. As for the product itself I am pretty happy. We could immediately tell a difference in the temperature in our house. The doors are solid and so far no leaks unlike the cheap rotting French doors they replaced. They are pricey but very well engineered and the fact that they come with a lifetime transferable warranty means I don't ever have to worry which made me okay with the price. These are not the cheap mass produced doors you see in the big box stores. Overall I was quite happy with the work that Home Town Restyling did. If I had to find a critique I would say they could improve upon their communication post quote to finished install a little bit. I would definitely consider hiring them again on upcoming future projects."

"So this might sound complicated. Basically, I needed a bunch of small projects done and waited until I had a enough to justify a repairman coming in. I called Home Repair Team after I had a horrible experience with another repair group who drug out scheduling an appointment after I already paid my deposit. Why can't you just give me a date?! I was going on vacation in the next month so I needed to arrange my work schedule so I could be home. Home Repair Team was very easy to work with on this respect. When I called about scheduling an appointment after they gave me a quote and I gave them my deposit. They were transparent about time lines and expectations. <br /> First project:  I had left my hose on the outside faucet my first winter in Iowa and it cracked in the spring when I tried to use it. So I needed the pipe replaced with a freeze-safe one. It required opening the wall in my downstairs bathroom to access the pipe, so dry wall repair had to be done as well. <br /> Second project: My fan in my primary bathroom went out and died. It was installed in 1968 and had an abnormal dimension. I needed it replaced. But they needed to widen the hole and install a new fan. <br /> Third project: I installed a door to my basement because I am renting out that area. When the door was installed, we had to take the door frame back a few inches to fit the footprint of the area. The light going down to the lower level ended up too close to the door to be used. I had the HRT move the light about a foot to be even with the door to the lower level and the door to the utility room. The light was originally attached to the light in the entryway as well. I had them deaden that connection and attach the light to a switch so the entryway light and the lower level were now 2 separate switches. <br /> Fourth project: When I moved into my house, I switched out an ugly chandelier above the dining room table to a ceiling fan light. Well, I wanted to have the light and the fan be independent of each other. I had them install an appropriate switch for it. I didn't know if there was a powerbox above the fan. Luckily there was one, so it made the job a little easier. <br /> Fifth project: my hallway to the bedrooms had a dimmer switch. Who has a dimmer switch in the hallway?! Everytime my roommates would turn on the light, they would forget to turn the light all the way off, so I had a constant flicker of light. I had them take out the dimmer switch for a simple off and on switch. <br /> Sixth project: My roommate decided that she didn't like my garage as is and hit the side of it backing out. So, the door was not damaged, but the side of the garage had visibly shifted. HRT replaced two 2x4 pieces, the seal and painted the garage exterior with paint I provided. <br /> Seventh project: I had holes in my wall from damages inflicted by my roommate. I had them mud up the holes and sand them to be even. I painted over the area at a later time. <br /> Overall a good experience. They emailed me all the invoices and I mailed them checks. They were in good communication with me and I will use them again after I save up more money for the things I need done. <br /> <br />"

"When first contacted for a bid on the work, Done Done Services was prompt in providing the estimate. Initially my elderly Mother-in-Law did not want to deal with moving out furniture and elected to do the minimum necessary to repair the damage. Once the work began, however, it was evident that more work needed to be done to correctly repair the damage. Pat Freilinger, the owner, and the assigned workman, Chris, convinced my Mother-in-Law that they should do what was necessary to do the job right. In the end Chris did a fantastic job removing wall paper in the entire room, repairing plaster, sealing cracks, and painting the room. The work was done on a timely basis and the end result was fantastic. Both Chris and Pat kept us informed of the progress and Chris helped my Mother-in-Law put the room back together when all of the work was finished. I would not hesitate to recommend Done Done Services for similar work."

"Great. Jon was very professional and honest about potential damage that could occur from removing sunken screws from the decking so I knew what to expect in the event that it happened (which it didn't). He was also up front about needing to reschedule several days in advance (versus the day before or day of) since the weather had delayed the completion of his already active projects. He did a great job with the repair, cleaned up after he was finished and was reasonable in his pricing. I would definitely hire him again."

"I wish I had used these people earlier. I ordered a part for my dryer and was able through their instructional video to fix it myself. Let me tell you I am "mechanically challenged" in just about every way. LOL I may have cut myself through my own stupidity but I did it. it was easy and I did not have to pay a repair man for a simple fix. Thank you so much!"

"Eric replaced some rotted soffit boards on the front of my house, which will greatly improve the curb appeal. He also replaced 16 boards of siding on my detached garage that had rot and carpenter ant damage. <br /> He was very responsive and efficient! Eric was true to his word with a schedule and the estimate. He also called me when he found more damage than expected and the cost was going up slightly. <br />"

"Bob was extremely easy to work with. He fixed all siding damages related to a storm and also took the time to reset/repair areas of siding that had shifted due to time and/or poor craftsmanship during initial installation. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Bob in the future."

FAQs for new windows service projects in Iowa City, IA

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
