"My wife and I moved into our home about two years ago and inherited a very old hot water heater (12+ years old) and boiler (25+ years old).  They were working fine, but they were on their last legs and could go at any time.  More importantly, 2 of the 3 upstairs bedrooms were always cold, little heat reached those rooms through the baseboard radiators, and we wanted to see what could be done to get it fixed.  This was very important to us since one of those rooms was going to be used as a nursery the following month. <br /> I spoke to Dave on the phone who set up an appointment for the next day to investigate.  He assessed the water heater and boiler, letting me know that they were currently working fine, explained how it worked, and that the boiler was missing a safety feature that is now required in newly installed boilers (I think it was something like an expansion tank?).  He explained it very well, I could tell he knew what he was talking about.  To solve the cold bedrooms riddle, Dave walked around the basement, looking at the exposed pipes and where they were headed.  Then he went to the rooms on the first floor, noting the locations of the radiators.  Finally he went to the 2nd floor to see where the rooms were and the radiator locations.  He found that the rooms were connected just fine, but that they were on the end of a long loop of rooms being heated.  The 2 bedrooms were located on the same zone as the entire first floor, and as a result, were not being heated effectively.  In addition, the thermostat was on the first floor, meaning once the desired temperature was reached on the first floor, the system shut down, leaving the 2nd floor in the cold.  To fix, he recommended adding a third zone by reconnecting the 2nd floor pipes in the basement directly to the boiler and connecting a new 2nd floor thermostat to the boiler so that it would continue working until the 2nd floor rooms were warm. <br /> It should be pointed out that the original intent of my service call was not to get a new boiler, but to fix the heating problem on my 2nd floor.  The 3rd zone solution complicated things with my older boiler, which would have had to be retrofitted with a bigger opening to accommodate the 3 zones.  Dave advised that rather than spending money on those enhancements, which would go to waste if and when my boiler dies, that I may have wanted to consider getting a new boiler. <br /> My wife and I agreed to the work and we scheduled an appointment a few weeks later to get the work completed.  On Day 1, they replaced the water heater and did some work on the 2nd floor piping in the basement.  On Day 2, they replaced the boiler and connected all 3 zones, including the new 3rd zone.  The crew was excellent, putting down drop cloths around the house where they were walking around to drain the radiators and cleaning up behind them.  When the work was completed, Dave walked me around and showed me what they did and gave me a tutorial of how the new thermostat worked.  Everything worked perfectly and the upstairs bedrooms are now nice and warm! <br /> Dave came back a few days later and dropped off the invoice, warranty, and completed rebate details (all I had to do was fill in my address and mail it out).  He also asked how things were going and answered some questions for me, including how I could adjust temperatures in the room using the radiators. <br /> All in all, I think I got my money's worth and would recommend Dawson to my friends and family for any heating work. <br />"

"Was very impressed with Ali! Very honest, fair, professional and reliable, he arrived when he said he would and didn't make me wait days even though we are already in the warm weather! I did my homework and got several quotes but no one was as honest, reasonably priced and on point as he was! I am very happy that I found someone that I can trust and call in the future and will definitely use his services again! I Highly Recommend His Company!"

"Rays HVAC tech came in and evaluated the problem with the A/C (early Sept. 2020). The coil was freezing up and dripping water. Another company wanted to replace the coil for over $3,000. Rays said it just needed free-on. Topped it off for $200 and the system ran fine after the service. would highly recommend it. Used Rays HVAC for a heating issue March 2021. Ray was quickly reachable, great communication, came the next afternoon. Great job on the repair and for a very good price."

"Victor recently replaced my home AC unit. I have been using his services for many years. I have found his prices to be reasonable and the quality of his work superb. He does the work, not an apprentice or a new grad that you get with many other places. He has also always been quick to respond to emergencies, never longer than the next day."

"Andy and partner arrived within 2 hours of my request on Angi, diagnosed the issue with my broken hvac in 15 mins and ordered the parts for repair. 8am the following morning Andy called to advise the part would arrive at his office by 10:30 and he would be at my house at 11:30am to install and hung around to make sure unit was operating as it should testing output of each register. Thankfully the hvac is again working as it should as it is the middle of winter. Andy was efficient, honest, good communicator and fair in terms of cost. My hubby and I are happy to have found a reliable resource for hvac/ac issues. Andy also solves plumbing issues! One stop shopping. We are happy campers! Thank you Andy and Angi!!"

"When your request a service, it important to ask if there is anything else I should know. My dryer wasn&#39;t getting hot so I thought I would just need my vent cleaned. Well, come to find out when the vent was clean and after the guy was packing up, he stated that &#34;oh, we do provide a dryer cleaning and we have those packages he also stated &#34;If your dryer doesn&#39;t get hot, you ming need a full cleaning of the dryer, where we take it apart&#34; I would have requested that full service, if I would have known about that service. I&#39;m not scheduling another appointment when the guy was already here and could have done everything to get my dryer working.... My suggestion is to ask all the questions possible to make sure you know your options for service. P.S. My dryer still isn&#39;t getting hot."

FAQs for central a/c service or repair projects in Jersey City, NJ

A condenser fan motor is a crucial part of your air conditioner that prevents the compressor from overheating. It pulls heat from your AC unit to cool the refrigerant moving through the condenser coils. This allows your system to blow cool air and keeps everything running smoothly.

The most common causes of AC fan motor failure include loss of lubricant in the system due to overheating and a rusted or leaking run capacitor. Poor lubrication can also cause failure in the belt drive, which may impact the AC fan motor. Weather and electrical components can also affect your AC. For example, a storm could send water into your motor windings and damage the internal components.

Air conditioner fan motors last about 12 years on average, though they can last longer if maintained well. This includes keeping them clean and cooled as needed with annual air conditioner checkups. Routine maintenance is essential to catch AC fan issues early. An HVAC inspection can cost between $70 and $500, while AC cleaning services may range from $100 to $400.

A broken AC fan motor may need replacement because this part usually can’t be repaired. Several things indicate it’s time to replace your AC fan motor, including buzzing noises, a constantly running fan, unusually high energy bills, or an aging system. If you notice these signs, call an HVAC pro for help before the faulty motor starts to strain other parts of the AC system.

There are clear warning signs of a bad AC fan motor, including unusual interruptions in the fan operation. The motor might be malfunctioning if you hear weird noises like grinding or rattling or if the fan continues to spin when the unit is off. These indicators compromise your AC’s cooling performance and increase your energy costs. Addressing these issues immediately by contacting a trusted HVAC professional prevents further damage and safeguards your HVAC's efficiency.

Replacing your AC fan motor takes a professional one to four hours. The technician will start by assessing your system and safely removing the damaged motor. If a new part needs to be ordered, it might take a few days. Once the part is available, your pro will install it properly and make sure your system is running smoothly.
