Customers say: Quality work

"Curtis Kuhn has created several custom furniture pieces for me (several are pictured in the pictures section of his company on Angie's List), including an entry way table, a shelf, a coffee table, and a cedar shoe shelf for our closet. His work is great, and he can deliver (and draw up) what you are describing from your head and inspiration photos. He's awesome...hope he doesn't retire before all my projects are done. :)"

"Outstanding. I was not very hopeful that they would be able to repair the chairs that had been received damaged nor did I think that they would be able to unglue the cabinet door and put it back together. The work done was awesome, took a minimal amount of time."

"Larry was wonderful to work with from the start. Told me about himself and his company. Was helpful with finding someone to also re-stuff all 4 pieces as well. He showed up at my house on time to examine my furniture, gave me a quote on the spot for the refinishing and even emailed the upholstery people while at my home. Helped in getting the furniture picked up and delivered back to me once it was completed. All work was done within two week time period. Larry came back to my house upon delivery of furniture with conditioning cream and explained how to take care of the leather. My furniture had never had anything done to it and I was blown away when it was delivered. Looked like it did when i first bought it. I was super excited and would recommend Precision Leather restoration to anyone needing leather repair and finishing. Highly satisfied."

"Wood Doctor gave us a good price for the work. The repairs to chair arms was great. The sewing machine was repaired and refinished to look beautiful. Our dining room chairs that were re-finished were a challenge. The first attempt was too light, but the Wood Doctor redid them."

"I found this company on Angie's List. I called them, described what I wanted, and scheduled a time to drop off the pieces. Once I got there, I explained what I wanted, showed them which fabric was for which piece of furniture and left. They didn't even require me to put down a deposit. When they were done, the gentleman called, and I arranged a time to pick up my pieces. They carried the items to my SUV and loaded them for me. This was a very easy transaction, and I am very pleased with the quality of the work and the price."

"I asked for a 9-10AM arrival via the website in a "Green" window of opportunity. I called the office the day before to confirm my appointment and to insure the on-site rug estimate was in the work order. On the day of the job, at 0855 I received a call from the office informing me of who was to arrive. At 0930 the technician arrived. Being the first job of the day, in a "Green" window, confirmed with the office verbally the day prior, I expected a 0900 arrival. It was apparent to me that the office called to insure I was there and ready prior to launching the technician. The rug estimate took sometime to complete and there was a certain amount of up-selling so that actual work did not begin until 1000. Phone calls from the office to the tech about future jobs that day also delayed my job. This was a large job and I was surprised that only one technician was assigned. The day before I moved the majority of the chairs and light furniture myself in preparation for the job. The technician worked quickly and efficiently but was only one person assigned to this large job, (7rooms, 6 rugs). A helper would have made the job faster and the drying start time earlier in the day for me. The product and application methods are industry standards of quality. The technician was knowledgeable and personable. I was ready for a expedited job completion with good results and was willing to pay a premium for the service and quality. I wish the administration of website orders thru the office to the technicians was more accurate and timely."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Kaufman, TX

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
