"In addition to the gutter guards which were installed and the downspouts buried, Thrasher also changed out a misfitting basement window well and cover, and installed a Sadona dehumidifying system. Jonah and his crew of Corrin and Luis were excellent at the work they did. I was called before they arrived, to ensure I was ready for them to start work, and Jonah went over the work with me prior to starting, to confirm what was to be done. Completely professional. After it was completed, we inspected it together and everything was perfect. I will worry less next time it rains! I will definitely recommend Thrasher if anyone I know needs work done."

"The sales guy was very impressive. He explained everything about the process and did a detailed inspection of the areas to be worked on. <br /> He was honest in saying that sometimes the concrete seams don't match up perfectly, but that the installers would use a grinder to feather out any spots where this would happen. I asked about cracking and he said that it rarely occurred. <br /> The installer came on the appointed day and was still there when I returned from work. He had completed much of the job, but indicated that he had trouble with some of the equipment and that some of the poly-leveling material had sprayed around some of the work areas. He said he would come back and finish the next day (which was a Saturday). <br /> He returned Saturday and finished. I inspected the work and was generally happy with the concrete leveling; my front step was now very close to it's original height and my patio was shedding water away from the house. But I did find a couple of things that distressed me and told the installer about them: <br /> 1. There were two very noticeable cracks and a third very thin one. Would he be filling these cracks to prevent future water damage? <br /> 2. There were many places in the driveway where the slabs were still uneven. Was he planning on grinding those down as promised? <br /> After he left, I also noticed that the patching material used to fill the holes seemed to be chipping away already and in several holes, did not even come up to the level of the slab. <br /> He later called back and said that he would come back and use a high quality sealer to fill the cracks. He didn't mention the uneven concrete. <br /> I later was contacted by the office about payment. I explained that there were outstanding issues. I was assured that arrangement had been made to fix them. <br /> Then I made the ultimate error: I paid them. <br /> When the sales guy made a follow up call, I told him there were still outstanding issues, and that I had been promised that they would be addressed. <br /> No cracks have been filled, the holes collect water every time it rains and I am mortified at the prospect of trying to clear snow from my uneven driveway this winter. <br /> Could I have made more noise with them about this? Sure. Should I have to after making three people aware of the problems? Certainly not."

"I LOVE LOVE LOVE DDS Plumbing. I have hired them for service calls 4 times now. I had a high level of concern about both the cost and level of destruction needed to fix the leaking water pipe in the ceiling of my finished basement. Scott from DDS Plumbing was able to repair it by cutting only two small holes in the ceiling, through which he was able to find and fix the leaking pipe. He also went through a troubleshooting process with a shower faucet in a guest bathroom that was only producing scalding hot water in a way that minimized the cost and impact to me. I feel like another plumber would have jumped to a easier and more costly fix of replacing the entire faucet, but Scott took his time to diagnose an issue with the pressure balance in the cartridge, which resulting in a less expensive and impacting way to the fix the problem. I really appreciate the professionalism, quality of work, and fair cost of service that DDS Plumbing has. This is a company with a lot of integrity, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody needing plumbing services!"

"The Kinzler team is amazing! They offered suggestions before completing the work to maximize the effectiveness of the insulation, connected me with a company to do this work, provided timely and well-done work, and filed my rebate information with MidAmerican! The entire team was easy to work with and answered all my questions. Highly recommended!"

"Our basement is an old block basement built in 1923. Like many basements built during this period, it started to leak through the walls. Our options were limited because the basement wall is directly adjacent to the driveway, so digging around the outside perimeter of the house would require us to tear out the driveway. I called Bob Bauer basement waterproofing for an estimate. Bob Bauer came to our house and inspected the basement. He is a very nice, professional man who described the process of coating the wall with a special "paint". He said he's never had a basement leak after applying his treatment. I hired him to finish the job on our entire basement. After he finished, it looked great. However, within the year, the "paint" bubbled and leaked. I called Bob several times to fix the problem. He finally returned my call after several attempts over several weeks. He and his daughter eventually came to my house and refinished the leaking walls. After they left, unfortunately, it leaked again within a few weeks. I guess I had a feeling this may happen, but Bob assured me that he's never had a leaky basement in the 15+ years he's applied this treatment. Please let this serve as a word of warning if you plan to have your basement "waterproofed"."

"Kevin got back to me quickly when I contacted him and was able to come out a get me a quote very quickly. Once I decided to go with him, he was really easy to work with to get the work scheduled. His team was friendly and did a great job on taking care not to tear up the yard more than where it was required. They kept me informed as to what to expect, with the color, and not to worry about if it got rained on that evening.  I can't say enough about the job done by Kevin and his team.  I've already recommended them to friends and will continue to. <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Knoxville, IA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
