"Edward Ryan worked with us every step of the way... he helped us get the designs and permits and did a large amount of the work himself. He has a great work ethic and kept everything moving forward. The subcontractors he did use were very professional. They did such a great job that you would have a hard time figuring out where the addition was put on if you didn't know where to look. I fully intend to use him again for home renovations we have planned."

"They did a very good job and it's extremely reasonably priced. They did a personal care and they're professional. They also are pleasant and I would recommend them. I had a personal recommendation from somebody and they are a real artist. They were great and they were able to save my furniture and so I don't have to replace them."

"Dear God, why can't every contractor in S. Florida be as excellent, professional and drama-free as the experience I just had with Mike, (aka Crown Molding Man)? I was (still am), so reno-weary that I can't even speak to the price/cost part of this review, bc at this point, all I care about is finding someone who is an actual expert in their field, which apparently is a mythical unicorn in South Florida. Based on not only his moniker "Crown Molding Man" and the great reviews I read on Angie's List, (thank you reviewers for pointing out this gem, tho I stilI question the authenticity of some of the reviews of other contractors I've used thru AL), I only needed to meet him, (Mike), to see if the rare unicorn existed. After my meeting Mike, I rightly decided there was simply no need to seek out another estimate. He and his beyond talented crew did a FLAWLESS job. He understood exactly what my vision was, the cuts were perfection, the caulking was consistently even throughout and the seams were seamless. In fact, there was only one seam bc he went above and beyond by walking the longer pieces of molding up 7 flights of stairs so he could avoid as many seams as possible. That one lone seam took me a considerable amount of back and forth before I was finally able spot it. He also protected and did an exceptional job of cleaning up inside and outside. THIS IS A MAN WHO TAKES PERSONAL PRIDE IN HIS CRAFT and WORKMANSHIP. In short the fabled unicorn does indeed exist for moulding at least, (too bad I have yet to come across the rest of them in any other categories), and his name is Mike; he delivered exactly what he promised and did a sensational, above & beyond job, without the usual South Florida delay or drama. HIGHLY recommended."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Lake Worth, FL

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
