"J&E Masonry completed a stone wall repair as well as a small concrete entrance repair for me, both with outstanding effort in all aspects related. Time to come out after initial contact, view desired work and provide an estimate was remarkable. Start dates were provided and time frames for completion maintained. Work was meticulous and cleanup exceptional. Thank you Edgar and Micheal-recommend without reservation. "

"Chris Inch and his co-worker, I think his name is Alex did an excellent job in repointing chimney, making masonry repairs on side of my duplex in city that required stucco repairs, caulking, repaired front porch steps. They just went the extra mile - rehung my exterior shutter and found a piece so that it could be rehung. Friendly yet very professional. They know what they are doing. I would not hesitate to hire them again. All A's except one B and that was because I got a quote back in November, and I responded with more questions but then I never heard back. Out of the blue, I get a call in January and they are ready to do my work. Very responsive once on the scene. But again, excellent job. I also think the price was very reasonable."

"Val has an exquisite eye for the details of an old house: he lives in a beautifully restored one himself, and has a background as a skilled cabinet maker <br /> My partner and I are very involved with all renovations here: she's an interior designer and I'm an engineer.  <br /> We were extremely pleased with Val's attention to detail, sensitivity to what's architecturally appropriate, and willingness to problem solve and offer multiple solutions to the inevitable challenges that an old house (and its occupants) can pose.  Like many good things, Val's work is worth the wait. We had many frank discussions about schedules, deadlines, etc. and Val did all he could to accommodate us. Furthermore, he's enthusiastic about his craft, and  house restoration in general, and showed us several products and resources we hadn't known about before. <br /> I'll use the staircase rebuild as an example. We needed to replace a sloppily done set of stairs from the 1940s, in our 1820s farmhouse. The walls surrounding the stairs had several issues, to say the least. <br /> Val tackled the job, removed an unnecessary bump out in one wall, made a mock up of the stair treads and risers he proposed to build, procured some beautiful cherry stock  to fabricate them from, matched old moldings, veneer plastered the walls to make everything "age appropriate", and delivered a beautiful and very sturdy  replacement staircase. <br /> Our cherry plank floors are another example of  Val's willingness to tackle an unusual job. I had designed a radiant floor system for the ground floor of the original house and the addition that was constructed from 2010-2013. Val had never installed plank floor over radiant. I had done my homework about installation "do's and dont's", passed them on to Val, and the result has been plank floors that have not gapped or cupped, but just look terrific.  He made them look like they came with the original house. <br /> Val works solo, and generally seems to prefer time and materials to a fixed quote. Have a frank discussion with him about the project's budget and I believe you'll be very satisfied with his work. He is one of the hardest, steadiest workers I've known, and very meticulous, so you will get your money's worth..... <br />"

"We had used Bill's services before. He put a retaining wall up for us and we were pleased with his workmanship and attention to detail. We had asked for 3 bids from 3 different people for the job to remove the old cement sidewalk, create a new paver (or cement) sidewalk, fix the ruts in our front yard and remove the stone slurry from our front yard from the well drilling done in November. Bill is an excellent worker and his bid was the lowest plus he could do all aspects of the work we needed to have done. From start to finish, it took 2 days! He and his crew were neat and considerate. Being a civil engineer, he gave us insight as to the layout of our yard and how he could level out the high areas and add to the low areas. He is a good communicator and we will recommend and use his services in the future!"

"Arlan installed CMU piers and lintels as described by engineer to add support to the two stone wall openings walls as needed. He also demoed any remaining plaster and framing that was no longer needed."

"This work was done in late winter and the concern was to eliminate any disruption to the lawn. The project was completed on time, on budget and the lawn was perfect due to the "plywood road" laid prior to start. I have another masonry project coming up this spring (2014) and have already contacted Mark."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Lancaster, PA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
