"This chair is now as solid as it could ever have been. Roy reworked all of the loose joints, repaired two broken pieces in a manner that even a diligent observer would have a hard time finding and then pinned the joints so that they would not come loose for another 65 years. He does all of the work himself and is extremely knowledgeable on furniture repair. He finished the repair in about 3 months and claimed to have spent less than 4 hours on it. With the work he did, I suspect it was more time but I think that it is his way of providing good value for very good craftsmanship."

"The owner, Chris, responded on June 26th examined the furniture, and gave an estimate for cleaning and restoring the faded sofa and love seat.  Because there was some "oil stains" on the top of seat backs he gave me the option of having the work performed on-site, or at his workshop.  He was honest and advised me that he thought the work could be performed on-site at a lesser cost, but he could not guarantee the stains would not return.  I asked him, based on his experience, what he would do. He said he would do the work on-site.  In this way, the furniture would not have to be removed for a couple of weeks, and the fee would be less because there would be no transportation involved.  He also stated that the oil stains were not severe, and more than likely would not bleed back through the leather.  An appointment was set up for July 9th, and employee "Terry" arrived on-time, examined the furniture, and proceeded to clean and remove the oil stains.  He then cleaned the rest of the chairs, and created a matching stain which he applied, followed by a finish coat.  It should be noted that Terry was very particular in matching the color, so much so that he changed the mixture several times to arrive at the exact match to the original color.  He was also very aware of protecting the carpet and other furniture from oversprays. He seems to be a very dedicated and conscientious employee.  The result was fantastic, and the furniture looks like new. <br /> Overall, I am totally satisfied, and would highly recommend their service. <br />"

"<p>I had a small maple wood table with movable side leaves and 2 chairs that had been painted over several times over the years. I contacted Shultz refinishing and they said they could strip the table and chairs. I chose not to have them stain the newly stripped table and chairs due to the additional cost but had them just strip the paint off. </p> <p>Two weeks after dropping off the table and chairs I was contacted that the table and chairs were finished and I could pick them up which I did. The time frame was what I expected for this type of job. When I showed up to pickup the table and chairs I was surprised to see that the table was had been taken apart , stripped, but not reassembled.</p> <p>I wish I would have been told when I brought it in that the table was not going to be reassembled after being stripped. I would not have had it done by Shultz. </p> <p> I haven't been able to reassemble the entire table correctly because the side leaves are supposed to slide under the table and since I didn't take it apart I don't know how the sliding mechanism is to be installed. </p> <p>They did a good job of stripping off the paint but now I don't have the table properly reassembled, which given the cost of stripping is why I rated them the way that I did.</p> <p>They did a good job of finishing to rewire a small older table lamp that I had and also cleaned/polished it nicely. However having the table stripped was the main reason I contacted them.</p> <br />"

If he hits an issue he'll bring it to your attention and give you options - you decide how he should proceed. </p> <p>If you're just looking to get a job done any old way and cut corners - he's not for you. However, if you want quality work that will last for years and look good in the interim - he's your guy. I'll have him back as soon as I'm ready for my next project. </p>"

"They did a beautiful job. They were really good. I know there is also a Furniture Medic in Elizabethtown, and my daughter had occasionally used them, and they are just as good. They are very reasonable. They are excellent. I would highly recommend them. When they do something, they tell you exactly what they are doing, and they respond to you; they tell you the time period it will take and what they need to do. They explain everything ahead of time. There is no misunderstanding about what they are going to do. They come in person; they pick up and deliver for you. They make it look like nothing happened with the furniture. It looks like brand new. They also know how to repair it with the style that it is, and they will not do something unless they can actually do it for you. I would definitely use them in the future."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Lancaster, PA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
