"We obtained several estimates.  One was from Kitchen Savers for $56,000.  Another was from Lowes, but they were unable to do ANY custom cabinetry for us.  All of Lowes' cabinets come out of a box.  Their price was about $23,000 for standard cabinets, no countertops or hardware included.  Oxford was a bit of a drive for us (about 2 hours), but it was well worth it.  We have a galley-shaped kitchen/dining area.  We wanted all of our cabinetry 6" deeper than standard.  All of Oxford's work is custom?they make all of their cabinets.  So making them 6" deeper didn't cost any extra except for material.  We designed some of the unique cabinets ourselves.  Oxford came up with cabinet solutions when we were stumped.  There were 23 cabinets in all, plus one 36 x 36 rollabout with two mixer lifts.  Some of the cabinets are glass fronts with false backs.  All of the wood is oak.  The left/right frames of each cabinet were made from a single piece of oak so that, once the separate cabinets are installed next to each other, they look like one contiguous piece.  Outstanding craftsmanship! <br /> Until this year, the business was entirely Amish-owned, which made communication more difficult (no internet, limited phone time, etc.)  But this year, Mr. Jacob Fisher, the owner, took on an English partner, Mr. Laverne Harnish.  Both men are delightful to work with.  They are creative and fair.   We understand that the crafters are all Amish, with the exception of one English.  The installers are English?very polite, pleasant and easy to have in your home.  Our project was very large.  The first install was in July.  The finish was in September.  Our price was about $23,000 which included all cabinets, countertops, hardware and installation.  If we EVER need any custom furniture or cabinet work, Oxford will definitely get a call from us! <br />"

"We searched for awhile and compared and contrasted 5 or 6 providers. We decided on Signature because they could work with the customization that we would need. Edward and Sherrie are a small shop and always there to answer questions or work with you with any changes, and I had many changes and they just took it in stride and made the adjustments no problem at all. We now have what is considered a large kitchen and had a small kitchen before and were considering having a wall pushed out - not any longer. We wanted to have cabinets that went up to the ceiling but had sofits that contained plumbing pipes. We had some of the pipes moved by our plumber but could not completely conceal them. Edward boxed in the pipes in back of the cabinets and we still had cabinets to the ceiling with glass fronts on the top and it all looks great. He also made a built in hutch with glass front cabinets, as well as a peninsula room divider with bookcase with glass doors on one side and overhang on the other for seating and columns on each end and decorative molding going between columns on top. There was also a large island (3 x 6) and I never thought I had room for an island! He worked off of all the appliance specs and we had a double wall oven, drop in cooktop, undermount farm sink, and microwave drawer and he installed and vented the range hood as well. He also helped my husband install the wall ovens which saved us from having to pay to have them installed. Sub-par work isn't even in his abilities. EVERYTHING was done to perfection and you could tell that anything else would just not be acceptable to him. It is a small business as far as employees, Alan was his number two guy and was as up on all details so you could always talk to either one. Installation was included in the price. Cabinetry and all materials were top quality, hinges and drawer hardware were heavy and well made compared to what you usually see, and he gives an allowance for them so we didn't have to pay extra, the slides and self-closing drawers and cabinets are also top quality. The worksite was cleaned at the end of each day. We checked a large home store and their price was higher and that didn't include any customization, installation, or specialty items such as pull outs. Other providers had similar prices but could/would not customize. So we are of the opinion that we just really lucked out when we found Signature. <br /> He also does bathroom cabinetry as well as custom furniture, bars, etc. Most of his work is in high end houses so we now have a kitchen that would fit right in to a million dollar house and easily rivals any designer kitchen seen on HGTV or the Houzz app as I am always watching or referring to one or the other. (We don't have a million dollar house.) <br /> Will post pics when the backsplash is in place."

"The principal decorator was at times argumentative and seemed unable to work with the contractor. She ignored some of my requests and very reluctantly allowed me to make decisions contrary to her suggestions. For example, I had to argue for the size shower I wanted and I had to spend more than 4 hours returning items I had asked her not to purchase. Some basic decorating plans seemed to be overlooked. Most egregious was that one piece of furniture ordered did not fit easily through door. She allowed her movers to leave the furniture in the front hallway blocking the door for more than a week. I had to find other movers, pay them myself, to finally figure out how to get it into the house. The fabric selected for draperies was extremely heavy, required special order drapery hardware which took several months (unplanned) to deliver. It also was much too heavy for a seaside residence and even with the special drapery rod, opening and closing is not easy to do. I also felt the strategy for assessing costs was unusual and highly priced. I have never before had a contractor assess fees for tracking payments. Sound strange, yes, to me, too. When one piece of furniture was found to have a defect, there was no effort to assist in fixing it or in contacting the vendor to remedy the defect."
