"Kevin was great to work with. His crew that was assigned to do our patio arrived promptly each day and were the nicest guys to work with. They cleaned up each day and made certain the property was left in good condition. We are pleased with the patio installation and would highly recommend them. They will be back in the fall to do some additional work for us as we will use them for all our landscaping needs moving forward."

"Very glad to have found this company. AMC Paving restored and improved our pea-gravel driveway and parking area, which had become overwhelmed by weeds. Using no chemical herbicides (thankfully), AMC removed all intruding vegetation, and excavated and regraded before spreading a deep layer of stone. The work was done efficiently and professionally by a great crew. Very fair pricing. Highly recommend this contrator."

"I hired Hard Rock to install millings in my driveway. Andrew gave me a free estimate and was very knowledgeable and informative. They also did the job in an extremely timely manner. Hard Rock did an excellent job, at a great price."

"Beyond fabulous. Great job on my gravel driveway. Great prices. Amazing crew. Everyone was polite. Hardest working group of guys I have seen in quite a while. Bill the owner really cares about a quality job and customer service. Working with his son he was not only the foreman but operated the roller and spreader. I would not hesitate to give an unqualified 5 star review. It’s a small outfit that delivers!"

"Rightway Waterproofing is the company you want to come and waterproof your basement. I had initially set up a job looking for pros through Angie's List. I was contacted by Rightway Waterproofing via phone and email but did not respond as life happens. Well it rained really heavy again in August and I had more water in the basement. I reached out to them on a Friday and Albert contacted me immediately. They were able to come out on Monday to look at my property. Jake was thorough and friendly. He let me know what he thought we needed, explained everything thoroughly and gave us a quote which was completely reasonable. We accepted the bid and work was to commence on Thurs as they had an opening. Work was completed in one day. The area was kept pristine and they did an amazing job. The crew was courteous to my family. I could not recommend them more. I hope to have them out again at some point to finish my basement area as well. Try to keep in mind that during the season of covid many families are looking for ways to make more space in their homes or to have to home projects done. If you are waiting for work to be done just know that it is worth it! Thanks Rightway!!!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Lewes, DE

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
