"David installed a wooden playset that was made in China. As you might guess, some of the starter holes for screws did not match up, some of the wooden slats were the wrong size, and some of the screws were wrong. The installation manual had different illustrations of how the finished product was to look. Several illustrations of the exact same area were different. For example, one showed slats on the inside of the sandbox area while the other showed the slats on the outside.
David had to improvise time and time again. He had to re-shape boards, drill starter holes that did not match, etc. He used good judgment and experience, and when he finished the play set was well-built, sturdy, and beautiful. He is a professional.

"I phoned Ed Chachere to get an estimate on the job above.  He was very professional over the phone inquiring in detail about the services I wanted performed.  He explained to me that he would like to do some research prior to giving an estimate and recommending how to proceed.   He kept me informed every step of the way and clearly did his research.
Once we decided to proceed, Mr. Cachere continued to inform me about project details daily.  His precision to detail and work ethic is evident in his carpentry.  Several other professionals including a landscaper and home inspector have commented on how well built the pergola is and what a craftsman Mr. Chachere is.  I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Chachere to anyone wanting carpentry work performed.  In fact, because Mr. Chachere has done such beautiful work thus far, I am planning to use his services for other projects in our house.

"Bruce responded to our original call for an estimate promptly. He originally gave us an informal quote of $800, though his final bid came in at $1100.

The good:  Quality work; the finished window looks very professional and is beautiful. Bruce took an irregular opening and managed to not only build a nice window but also conceal the flaws in the original construction. He is careful, precise, and is also a really nice guy. He takes pride in his work, and it shows. At one point, when he was dissatisfied with how one part came out, he redid it without being asked, going over it again and again until he was satisfied.

The bad:  On two of the three days he came to work on the project, he arrived hours late - once at 12:45pm and once at 4:30pm. He did not return phone calls when we tried to contact him for an estimated time of arrival. He also did not put any protective covering down in our bathtub where he was working, and it was damaged with a small gouge when he dropped one of the heavy glass blocks into it. He repaired it before the job was done, but used epoxy for a porcelain tub instead of plastic. He also did not wipe his feet on our doormat or use contractor's paper where he walked, and our carpet is really dirty. Not a big deal, really, but annoying."
