Small jobs welcome

"Smooth, well thought out process for refinishing our wooden front door despite the cold weather. This allowed us to give our front entry a facelift without losing the charm of the original door. Very happy with the service, quality, and overall value - and would recommend to others."

"Tom was great.  After I called and left a message to schedule an appointment he returned my call the same day.  We set up a date and time (I was pleased that it was made within less than a week since I purchased the Big Deal and knew he had a lot of jobs to do) for him to paint the interior.  With the 10' plus ceiling and the depth and intricacy of the moulding he predicted it would take 8-10 hours. I purchased the primer and paint and he supplied all the equipment (extension ladder, drop cloths, painting supplies). He got right to work and I was impressed with how much he was getting done. He covered the large pieces of furniture we could not easily remove and used drop cloths on the floor, and taped off the edges (properly using tape for wallpaper). His estimate was right on - the job took him 8 hours and I'm really happy with the work. He was a pleasure to work with and I would use him again.

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Milwaukee, WI

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
