"Branden did a phenomenal job on our project! We wanted him to remove our mulch and dead plants in our flower beds and replace it with a dry scape scene. He was very helpful with coming up with ideas and even used AI to digitally show us the design prior to agreeing to move forward. Additionally we wanted to add some sod. He had great communication, was here when he said he would be and finished a day sooner than expected! We are very happy with him and his crews and will use him for future projects! Very respectful and professional company! "

Customers say: Quality work

6 employees. Uses Licensed subs for irrigation, lighting, brick work and carpentry. You plant around your design, not design around your plants. Confusing? Upon meeting with a new client, most people will typically tell me of their favorite plant(s). Putting plants in the lead position of the design process will guarantee you a landscape that resembles your neighbors and every other house on the street and across the community. It’s like determining the colors you will use in your new house and you haven’t yet designed the house!\n\nLike colours, plants are a medium. You must provide context in order to give meaning. This is the hardscape or ‘bones’ referred to in garden literature. Be it a simple graveled path, a grouping of boulders, or obedient deference to existing topography, this is what will provide year-round interest. It is also the framework that will suggest and therefore help you choose which plants and their placement. The end result is an aesthetic and harmonious integration of hardscape and softscape elements.\n\nThe Walkabout Way acknowledges the on-site environmental realities (ecozone, drainage, sun, shade etc..) and integrating these along with the clients desired outside intentions (active/passive use) as the basis for formulating a design theme. The end result is a naturalistic approach that is environmentally and ecologically sensitive, yet aesthetically pleasing regardless of the season.

"Chris and crew showed up Saturday morning to finish forming for the pour and started pouring in great weather just over half way through, the winds and rain came out of nowhere. The guys were troopers and stayed out there with plastic trying to protect the project. They stayed and finished when the rain stopped. I can't say enough about his crew and Chris. I know dealing with an OCD person was challenging and he put up with me with kindness and patience. His prices are reasonable and I highly recommend him. He did everything he could to make the project successful, even with the unforseen weather issue."

"Impact Landscaping did a fabulous job!! We have 2 huge flowerbeds in front of our house. Erik came up with a plan for flowers that we love! We ended up hiring the company to do mowing, care for the beds, and seasonally change annuals - for only a small amount more than we were currently paying for just mowing. Our house is close to our neighborhood greenbelt and on a busier road. We are constantly having people stop and look at the flowerbeds. ?"

"Stenson Landscaping did an outstanding job on a complicated project in my front yard. I was looking to have the following done: 1) repair all existing stone landscaping walls (which were in bad shape); 2) demo the old front walkway and pour a new one with a different pattern of stairs; 3) build stone retaining walls down the sides of the front walkway and across much of the front of the yard, and have those walls match the existing stonework; 4) fill behind the walls with gravel and filter fabric for drainage and fill dirt for planting; 5) update all irrigation to the new layout and ground level, including installing drip irrigation lines for future planter bowls. Stenson did an outstanding job at the project. They worked to detailed specifications and designs that I provided them, and were open to feedback and willing to make changes on the fly as needed. The stonemasonry in particular is outstanding - the walls are very solid, built with rebar and concrete footers, and really look incredible. The change in the look of my front yard is night and day. I'm thrilled with the outcome of the project and would absolutely hire them again."

"Mike Hillman and the Hillman Outdoor Living Team were recommended to us by our amazing realtor, Teresa Hill at Berkshire Hathaway Realty, and they did not disappoint, we were blown away by their work. They transformed our backyard dream into our own outdoor oasis with 5-star resort quality and appeal, which we can enjoy year-round. Mike listened to our ideas and brought them to life with his 3D designs and his experience from other successful projects. What truly sets Mike apart is his honesty, integrity, and character, which gave us confidence that he wouldn't overcharge us or compromise on quality to save costs. He guided us through various color and texture options that seamlessly integrated into our project. Additionally, he set us up for Pool School, which was very helpful.

Mike assembled an all-star team headed by project manager, Jose Giron. Jose was extremely responsive, had great attention to detail, and a high customer focus. He orchestrated an ensemble of work events with a demolition crew, construction crew, electricians, masons, plumbers, and landscapers. His team was always respectful, hardworking, and took great care of our property. Jose also did something very special for us, which showed that Hillman Outdoor Living truly has a family culture. We consider them our friends.
We used Hillman Outdoor Living for a major outdoor overhaul, including our amazing pool, extensive outdoor overhang, outdoor kitchen, gas fire pit, full turf entertainment area, and immaculate landscaping. They gave us million-dollar results and have been there for us from the very beginning and even after the project was completed. We are so pleased with their work that we are already starting another project with them soon. Their ability to be flexible and scale their work based on our needs is impressive. We highly recommend Mike Hillman and the Hillman Outdoor Living Team for all your outdoor living needs. George and Tanisa H."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Mineral Wells, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
