"We found Devendra from HomeAdvisor for Structural Engineering work for our new construction project. After talking to Devendra we found him to be quite knowledgeable in his work, offered good suggestions and pricing for work was also quite reasonable. He studied in one of the best Engineering Schools in India for Civil Engineering. For the structural work Devendra came up with excellent suggestions for a specific type of truss and he went out of his way to get all relevant details related to it for implementation in the structural design. He worked with our Architect seamlessly. We were able to secure City permits for structural design in a timely manner. He is very knowledgeable, performs his work in a very professional manner, finishes tasks promptly, easily reachable and is always willing to help. We highly recommend Devendra for Structural Engineering work."

"Very honest engineer. He performed a mandatory seismic inspection that was required for the city of Hayward. There was no foundation issue whatsoever. Before Mr Padir did the inspection I had a retrofit company look at my building and they told me it would cost $58k to fix the problem and I almost fell for it. It turns out that one joist was rotten from a sewer leak that was repaired. It is hard to find honest people these days. I am so glad it is only a cosmetic fix and a sister joist installed next to it to relieve the pressure on the building. Thank you once again Mr. Padir. Excellent job and quick turnaround."

"The job went extremely well. Eli Dagan and his team were fabulous! Eli was great at answering any questions and keeping me up to date throughout the entire project. Eli helped me design the house and bought his engineering and design team to help me with anything I needed. Eli then pulled the permit and he took care of everything throughout the entire project, without any headache to me. His team were professional, clean, and very nice throughout the project, even though I changed things a couple of times. I would recommend Eli and his tam to everyone and will definitely be working with him in the future!"

"We did our research and from 5 contractors we had interviewed we chose construction&more for our kitchen and master bathroom remodel. The communication with Joseph and Avi was very great from the very beginning and these guys are knowledgeable about what they’re doing! We wanted to get better layout for our kitchen and convert tub to shower and Alex did the whole design process and very helped us with shopping materials for our project and created precise measurements in project file . We would like to recommend anyone who is looking for company that considers the project you dream as their own project and making easy to go ?"

"I worked with Design Everest (Josh) when I needed to bring to code some unpermitted work on my home that had been altered prior to 1978. Design Everest was prompt to supply drawings of the structural work required. When my contractor found existing conditions that called for the engineers to review their plan, DE was very quick to review those existing conditions, change the plans and write cover letters (twice) to the City inspectors describing and confirming 'as built conditions' met code were sufficient from the original build. I am very happy with the end result, and although I questioned the cost of their bid at the onsite, I believe that what was discovered during construction and with the changes made, the cost turned out to be worth it the expense. I highly recommend using this firm."

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Mountain View, CA

You should replace floor joists as soon as you see clear signs of structural trouble—sagging floors, wide wall cracks, uneven door frames, wet or rotting wood, persistent squeaks, or windows that no longer latch. Tilted or sinking supports in the crawl space are another red flag. If you notice any of these signs, call a pro right away to keep your home’s structure safe.

If the joists are exposed from below, a pro can swap them out without touching the finished floor above. In an unfinished basement or crawl space, you’ll often see the joists and can easily reach them. When insulation, subflooring, or finished flooring blocks access, the crew must remove these materials before repairs can begin.

Sistering allows a pro to reinforce a cracked or undersized joist without tearing up the entire floor. The contractor slowly raises the frame, then fastens a new joist snugly against the damaged one to share the load. When done correctly, sistering restores full structural strength and keeps the floor level without the cost of a complete replacement.

Floor joists installed correctly in a stable environment can last for 100 years or more, often outlasting the house itself. However, termite damage, moisture, leaks, and other problems can significantly reduce a floor's lifespan. For instance, if the floor is exposed to consistent moisture, you'll likely need to replace the joists every 20 to 30 years.

Homeowners' insurance covers floor joist damage resulting from sudden and accidental events, such as fire, windstorm, or water damage from a burst pipe. It will not cover repairs resulting from gradual deterioration, poor maintenance, or termite infestations. Review your insurance policy and consult your provider to verify the conditions that guarantee full coverage. Doing so ensures you are fully aware of your responsibilities and can plan your repair work with complete confidence.

Floor joists are essential structural components that provide a stable foundation for your home. They directly transfer the weight of floors, furniture, and occupants to the foundation, ensuring stability and a safe living environment. Without these robust beams, the structure would face compromised load distribution, leading to potential safety hazards and costly repairs. Proper installation and maintenance are crucial for long-term durability and safety.
