"Well organized, and responsive. Gave me the analysis I requested, and pointed out a potential problem with related construction that he noticed in one of the images I supplied. Very happy with his work and attention to detail."

"I'm working on a large project in the Pittsburgh area. The building was previously condemned despite being in good condition. In order to remove the condemnation, the city wanted a report from an engineer to verify that it was safe to occupy. Bob came to the site when he said he would and took his time walking throughout the entire structure. He was able to offer insight on how the building was constructed and advice on things we could do to reduce our construction and maintenance costs (which was WAY outside of the scope of work I was paying for). I was extremely pleased with his work. Many engineers & architects come across as dry and dare I say arrogant. Bob was easy going and polite. A breathe of fresh air in that line of work. I would definitely use Bob again and would recommend him to friends or family."

"I requested a quote and received a call back right away, but took a long time to get a call back after I gave the company the requested information. Then they called me a few days later to notify me that the Engineer did not want to do the structural inspection because I already had a failed retaining wall at the property. They also told me the engineer did not want his name involved with the inspection, I am not sure what that means. My wife and I required an inspection from a licensed engineer to do the report on what we already knew, all they had to do is come verify and provide a report for our lender. Not to mention that they initially asked for $950 on a 726 sq.ft. property. We decided to go with a different license Structural Engineer who was polite and charged a lot less than this company. He gave us his availability the same day, I did not have to wait days before I heard back."

"A friend recommended Rob at Inspectioneering and I can see why. He was very professional. Scheduling was easy and he was early for our appointment. I was present at the inspection and he was patient with my questions (and ignorance). He was thorough but not picky, which is helpful when you're considering such a big purchase. I think he did an excellent job and my husband and I feel like we can move forward with a clear picture about the condition of the home."

"Chris Kim, a professional engineer, came out promptly.  He examined the wall that we wanted to remove (load-bearing) that had a <br /> garage beneath and second floor and attic above. He examined structure in garage and basement as well as the hallway upstairs and the structure of the roof in the attic. He was very informative and gave a lot of information as he was making his inspection and measurements.  He answered any and all questions we had and included what he thought the cost would be for the project to give us an idea of price to expect.  He also said that we and/or whoever did the work could call him anytime with questions about his report, specs and drawings.  The report was emailed and sent by regular mail within 10 days (he emailed to say that he apologized for the slight delay...he had promised it in 7 days).  He had told us if we needed the report earlier he could get it to us, but we did not need it right away so the week-10 day time frame was no problem AND he contacted us to let us know about the delay (even though it was only 3 days).  He also contacted us again to let us know he was emailing the report that evening and putting it in the mail the next day. <br /> Included in the very detailed report was a nice letter, again emphasizing that we/contractor could call with any questions.  He also recommended having 3 estimates done and provided the names, addresses and numbers of three contractors he had worked with often. <br /> We would use his services again and would highly recommend him. <br /> <br />"

"We are evaluating options to repair several conditions in the basement and after quotes from service providers that did not seem to be directed at the root problem, decided to call in an engineer. They discussed many of the options we had already considered and we were generally in agreement on what was most effective for our situation. <br /> They were able to provide guidance on one additional technique that we had not previously considered and a number of service providers that specialized in that technique. We are currently working with another round of contractors to implement the solutions recommended by Capstone. <br /> They were also very easy to work with logistically, providing advance advice over the phone, being flexible in scheduling and following-up via email post-walkthrough. <br />"

"Nick was helpful in reviewing my home inspection report and discussing options for corrective actions identified and additional projects that I wanted performed to enhance the home's value as well. Nick?s estimates are well defined and thorough. Nick and Bud performed several projects at the home. The projects included installing a new full bathroom for the game room, blowing insulation in the attic, installing drywall on ceiling and walls in the game room and flooring, and reattaching soffit and fascia. When planning for the projects, Nick is able to provide good ideas for material/product selection and the best options for cost and quality. In addition, Nick was able to help us design the layout of the bathroom to best use the available space. Nick was very helpful in guiding us through a home store retailer when selecting products to install in the new bathroom. Nick and his team are enjoyable to work with and go the extra mile as needed. Nick and his team worked very efficiently, timely, and professionally. They are skilled craftsmen. The projects were successfully completed and achieved what we were going for. The workmanship is very much appreciated. I highly recommend Cratsa Construction. Thanks to Nick and his team!"

"In August Keystone Basement Systems & Structural Repair Inc. installed a steel-beam wall repair and interior drainage system which I described in a previous 5-star review. In short, all went well, my wife and I were very happy with the management (Aaron), the crew (Josh and Robert) and the work itself. But then a week or so later we got a big rainstorm. I was very disappointed to find water puddles stemming from the new drainage system. So I emailed Aaron. He immediately replied saying "we will get to the bottom of this [problem]". A day later, Renae Taylor (Head of Service) called and set up an appointment for Chuck A. to access the situation. Chuck showed up, diagnosed the problem and set a day to come and fix it. Chuck A. came and fixed, what to me looked like a two-day project, all in one day, all by himself. It was pretty impressive work. He's a great guy too! Keystone Basement Systems & Structural Repair Inc. stands by their work! From my experience with them, the warranty included in the project is as good as gold!"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Murrysville, PA

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
