"I got bids from 5 contractors. 3 of them backed out immediately and the 4th didn't have good references. Musick had stellar references, stuck with me through the financing process which lasted months and answered all questions and concerns I had. Most of all he had the confidence in himself and his crew to do the job right. My new foundation looks amazing and I can't be happier with the job that they did. Too bad they don't do everything because I'd definitely hire them."

"<p>We had been having problems with leaks in our sunken living room for quite a while. The leaks started last year and we had PermaSeal come out and do a "repair" which ended up not working. (The amount of water was reduced, but it still kept coming in, even after PermaSeal did a wrap seal of our foundation.) Frustrated, especially after PermaSeal did not guarantee their last job and wanted to charge us 1000s of dollars for a redo, we consulted with our neighbor across the street who had a similar problem that arose right when ours did. They said Safeguard had IDd and fixed their leak issue (same spot as ours) for a third of what PermaSeal charged, so we called Safeguard.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Phil from Safeguard came out very promptly (actually early! He asked permission to come a full 2 hours early if it was convenient for me, and I said yes). He looked at the area where we suspected the leak occurred and commented that PermaSeal (his former employer!) had done a poor job. He also remarked that the leak might not even be a foundation leak, but rather an above-grade leak like a mortar problem or chimney problem that was then dripping down behind the drywall. He conducted a series of tests using water from our hose to see where water might seep in depending on where the water was pointed. He did a "flood" test of the ground near the foundation---no leak. Then he pointed to some spots where there was missing caulk on our chimney seams, and said that the water could be getting in there instead. He had me go inside and look inside the fireplace while he trained the hose on these side seams, and BINGO! That's where the water was getting in. He found the exact leak location when PermaSeal could not (they just "guessed") Phil then said, "Well, we don't fix that since it's above-grade, so I recommend you contact a siding or chimney company to make those repairs. I'm not going to sell you something that won't fix the real problem just to make my commission."</p> <p>Phil spent nearly 2 hours identifying the true source of our water problem, even when it would not benefit him or his company. Very honest and decent guy, and we WILL use this company when we do have a foundation problem. Great!</p> <br />"

"It has taken me almost 2-years to write this review, so I hope they have improved. My experience was awful. It had been a very rainy May and the basement kept getting water in it. I called Helitech and a competitor and both were really busy. Chose Helitech because they could get there sooner. Salesman promised me they would start the work in about 2-weeks -- work wasn't done until late August. I was told they had a big job at a nursing home that had to be done first. My job was not a minor cheap change but $5,000 and not one I thought would be put on the back burner. The people in the office were just about nonexistent; I'd call and leave messages and they were never returned. Just terrible customer support! The actual work that was done was good. And while the team of workers were nice, I had proof that they had gone through some of my things in the basement. I found one of the items upstairs proving they had moved it. The whole project put me behind three months of putting the house up for sale and left me with a bad taste for this business."

"These guys are fantastic! It's a family business, consisting of Eddie (the father) and two sons, plus one other employee. They are all honest, reliable and hard-working men. They were kind and thoughtful, and absolutely professional in the 1.5 weeks we dealt with them. At our request, they were particularly mindful of our cat, so that we could prevent his and quot;escapeand quot; during all of the entering and exiting required, while not confining him to a single room unless absolutely necessary. <br /> We called Eddie Ross Construction because we had made three previous attempts to address our damp basement problem, and instead of fixing it, the solutions other people offered culminated in making the issue much worse. <br /> 1. Water was flowing near our front door, leaving a wet ground spot that iced over in winter. So, water was re-routed to other side of house, which caused flooding in neighbor's drive (and made sump pump work too hard to push out water, so... <br /> 2. Second person called in to route water to street. They attached a pipe underground to do so, but strangely enough, no water ever came out other end. We found out this was because they used a perforated pipe (placed at the wrong angle), which cause ground to be perpetually wet a few inches below grass. Furthermore, the water was flowing back toward the house, so... <br /> 3. Third person came and suggested a dehumidifier to counteract the increasing damp we were experiencing. <br /> We were unaware what the ramifications of the above three procedures were, but we knew the problem was getting worse, not better, so we FINALLY found some true professionals. Enter Eddie Ross Construction. <br /> They did all of the work we listed in the and quot;Services Performedand quot; section of this review, all the while explaining why and how things had gone wrong before. In fact, it was because of these previous and quot;fixesand quot; that we needed so much rock fill, because the ground was so saturated, that whenever they would dig, the mud would collapse and they had to make the trench deeper! It was messy, hard work, but these guys were up to it. They even managed to save a favorite Rose of Sharon bush that was right in the midst of all this construction. Our front yard is small, and the location tight (on a busy highway), but they managed to get their heavy equipment in and out and maneuver it all like a well-choreographed dance. It was amazing to watch. <br /> These guys met challenges head-on and solved them quickly. One challenge was that they had to work with another group when it was discovered that our water meter needed to be moved and an underground pipe replaced. The two groups worked out logistics efficiently and helped each other to get it done. <br /> The next challenge was when the hot exhaust from the machinery melted a bit of our siding. This was a hazard that simply could not have been avoided, although it was unexpected, as the work site was extremely tight. The guys let us know right away about that problem, and immediately offered a solution to how they would fix it, which, of course, they did. You'd never know now that it had happened. <br /> Value-added service: <br /> - Added sturdy, stylish handrail per our request (which they procured) <br /> - Suggested a new mailbox to fit our sleek, new front-of-house look, which they procured for us and expertly attached to the house <br /> - When replacing long front sidewalk, suggested we align it with front door, instead of slightly off-center as the old one had been <br /> <br /> To sum up, these guys treated the job, and our home, as if it was their own. They took extra care to make sure everything was as perfect as it could be. We cannot praise them enough for their professionalism, and we finally have real solutions to the problems we had been dealing with. The basement is perfectly dry, the sump pump does not struggle to push water out, and the front of the house looks great! <br />"

"The guy that they sent off to do the work was not very knowledgeable. I had the work done before so I knew what was supposed to be done. I actually told him how to do the baseline. It ended up coming out alright. I have another company do it a little cheaper but they don't do our area anymore. They're on time in everything. I would probably not use them in the future."

"We live in a house with a full basement that was built in 1915.  The house has three full stories.  We had noticed a new plaster crack in the second story and wanted to be sure the foundation was stable.  The representative came, looked at the foundation and basement, and pointed out a few things we could do ourselves to keep the foundation area dryer.  He also told us that the plaster crack was caused by settling from the weight of the house on the support beams in the basement (not basement walls).  He explained what they could do to improve the support system in the basement and gave us a quote if we wanted to do the work, but was honest enough to tell us that the house was very stable in its present condition, which is what we really wanted to know."

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in Nashville, IL

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
