"I ordered wooden blinds for the living room and a roller shade for the bedroom. Eli, who came over to take the order (and later, with a helper, did the installation), was spot on in his recommendations for colors that harmonized with the decor. Everything was well-made, and the service was first-rate. A very professional operation."

"Was able to book them for a repair pretty quickly. Very professional, efficient and quick. Cost estimate was cheaper than other quotes in the area. Elan was able to come back a 2nd time at short notice to repair our office blinds that have been damaged for ages, handled it very quickly. Would recommend."

"

We bought a coupon that allowed us to buy $500 worth of Hunter Douglas window treatments for $100.   Paul came and measured all the windows in our newly built home.  He spent a lot of time with us helping us to make decision.  He gave us a detailed estimate.  It was much higher then we had budgeted for.  We checked with competitors and found that Slats and Pleats's prices were competitive.  Hunter Douglas products are expensive.

We decided to purchase from Blinds to Go which was more affordable.

We used the coupon towards the purchase of a single Hunter Douglas shade for our master bathroom from Slats and Pleats.

All of our calls were returned promptly and they arrived on time for appointments.

There was no high pressure even when we decided not to buy the bulk of our window treatments from him.

"Kristine diligently followed up with me and my wife to schedule an appointment and consult us on blinds for our new home. She went out of her way to call and organize appointment details over the holidays. Her consultative process is exactly what we were looking for - asking about the family, desired living/sleeping conditions per room and explaining various options based on look, style and budget. While our home purchase has been delayed, Kristine has given us confidence she will the best partner for us going forward.

"The initial meeting to measure and discuss the window treatments went very well.  Chris of ABC Windows and his father have been in the business for at least thirty years first in the Bronx and now in Tuckahoe, NY.
He was very knowledgeable about the area and the surrounding buildings and the nature of the light that my co-op receives.  I arranged for a visit to his shop where in a matter of a few hours I made my selections.  He guided me to the fabric and shade choices that enabled me to make a decision in one visit.  It was approximately six weeks from the date of my selection to the final installation.  Due to availability of materials there were two installations.  I am very happy with the results and would use them again if and when the need arises.

FAQs for blinds or shades repair projects in New-York, NY

If you're wondering whether repairing your blinds is worth it, consider the quality and age of your blinds. For high-end or custom blinds, repairing them can preserve their quality, functionality, and design, making repair a smart choice. Immediate repairs maintain the original look and performance. However, if your blinds are over six years old, extensively damaged, or of lower quality, replacing them might be more cost-effective, as new blinds offer better efficiency and modern technology. Weigh the repair costs against the benefits of replacement to make the best decision for your situation.

When damage undermines the integrity and appearance of your blinds, replacement becomes the clear option. You should replace your blinds when damage to slats or fabric prevents you from obtaining an exact match, thereby compromising appearance and function. Severe damage increases repair complexity and expense. Replacing blinds not only restores superior performance but also creates an opportunity for aesthetic upgrades and lasting benefits.

You should plan to replace your blinds at least every 10 years, with clear signs of wear, such as discoloration, deterioration, or functional issues, emerging by five years. Regular evaluation of style, quality, and performance supports an informed decision. While minor repairs may temporarily extend usability, a complete replacement secures optimal operation and updated design.

Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep your blinds looking and functioning their best. Clean them regularly with mild, specialized products and follow the manufacturer's recommended usage guidelines. UV-blocking window film can protect against fading and warping from sun exposure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance will preserve their appearance and performance, extending their overall lifespan.

If you pull the blind string and it does not move, it indicates a malfunction in the mechanism, such as a broken cord, a jammed cord lock, or a stuck component. Inspect the string for breaks and examine the headrail for any obstructions. Replace the defective cord or cord lock as necessary to restore proper operation and maintain functionality.

Yes, you can replace your blind string yourself by using a replacement kit available at home improvement stores. Accurate measurement of the string diameter is essential for a perfect fit. Gather the necessary tools and follow the manufacturer’s instructions rigorously to secure a safe, lasting fix. If the task demands more time than anticipated, hiring a professional is advisable to avoid further damage.
